Double the difference: Why we're taking part in Big Give's - Small Charity Week Campaign

There's not much accountants love more than value for money.

So you can imagine how happy we were to hear that Charterpath had been selected for the Big Give's Small Charity Week campaign for 2026!

Between 22 and 29 June 2026, every £ donated to Charterpath through the campaign will be matched (up to £1,500), meaning your support will have twice the impact.

What is the Big Give Small Charity Week Campaign?

Big Give is a charity that brings funders together with the public to help a variety of charities raise significantly more than they could alone (hundreds of millions since 2008)! One of those campaigns takes place during Small Charity Week - celebrating the UK's small charity sector.

Small charities are often the organisations that hold communities together. They run food banks, community centres, youth projects, mental health support services, hospices, volunteer groups, sports clubs and countless other initiatives. Yet many are facing significant challenges. Costs continue to rise, funding is becoming harder to secure and demand for services is higher than ever. The stark reality? One in two small charities fears closure in the next 12 months.

In partnership with NCVO, Global's Make Some Noise and the Postcode Lottery, this Big Give campaign shines a spotlight on the vital role small charities play in communities while helping them raise much-needed funding.

Why Charterpath?

At Charterpath, every day we speak to small charities tackling some of society's biggest challenges. Talking to them daily we are in awe of their work.

Most operate with very small teams, limited budgets and growing demand for their services. Paying for specialist financial support is often simply not an option.

That's where skilled volunteers can help:

  • Building simple cash flow models

  • Applying for new grant funding

  • Assessing financial risks and how to reduce them

  • Making robust investment decisions

Whether serving as a trustee, treasurer, mentor or a project volunteer, finance professionals bring expertise that can help charities become more resilient and focus on what they do best: delivering their mission

And, let’s not forget, Charterpath is a small charity itself!

The Big Give campaign recognises the work we do as a small charity in helping other small charities.

Why we keep our platform free

One of the things we feel most strongly about is that our platform should remain free to charities.

The charities we support often have very limited budgets. We believe that they should not have to choose between funding their mission and accessing the financial expertise they need.

That is why we have always worked hard to keep barriers as low as possible.

When a charity lists a volunteer role with Charterpath, we help them shape the opportunity, promote it through our website, share it with our growing network of finance professionals and amplify it through our brilliant recruitment partner Marks Sattin. We help charities reach people they might never otherwise have connected with. And we do all of this free of charge.

Making every pound go further

We know that times are tough. Many individuals are feeling the pressure of rising living costs. Businesses are reviewing budgets. Funders are receiving more applications than ever before.

Like many charities, Charterpath relies on a mix of funding sources, including grants, partnerships and income from our bespoke training programmes.

We are also incredibly fortunate to benefit from a huge amount of volunteer support, helping us keep our costs exceptionally low and ensuring that resources are focused where they can make the greatest difference. We are so grateful to those people who have contributed their time, expertise and other support over the past few years.

But opportunities like this do not come around very often. When every donation can be doubled, even modest contributions can create meaningful impact.

The multiplier effect

What makes supporting Charterpath different is that the impact doesn't stop with one small charity. When you help us connect a finance professional with a charity, the benefits can ripple far beyond that placement.

By sourcing a volunteer, the charity are saving money comapred to buying in these services. In addition that volunteer might help a small charity strengthen its financial position and allow it to deliver more impact for the communities it serves, and for longer.

But the impact doesn't stop there. Research consistently shows that once people start volunteering, they are much more likely to continue volunteering throughout their careers. One volunteer may go on to support multiple charities over many years.

So when you invest in Charterpath, you are not simply funding a one-off intervention. You are helping create a future pipeline of financially skilled volunteers who can strengthen charities across the sector for years to come.

We estimate that Charterpath has created over £2 million in value from finance professionals volunteering their time to the charity ….well over 20 times the funding it has sourced… so to test your maths, if you were to donate £25 to our Big Give campaign, it would immediately be doubled to create £50 - and then with a 20x impact you would be contributing the equivalent of £1,000 for charity.

How your support helps

Every donation made through the campaign will help us:

  • Support more charities to find financial volunteers

  • Promote opportunities to our growing network of finance professionals

  • Provide guidance and support to charities throughout the recruitment process

  • Deliver training, mentoring and resources for volunteers to improve their effectiveness

  • Develop new initiatives that strengthen financial resilience across the charity sector

  • Continue providing our core services free of charge

And don’t just take it from us - Claire Baldwin, CEO of the Manchester Deaf Centre - described working with Charterpath as getting a warm hug! Listen to this short video to hear more….

A small ask

Anyone who knows Charterpath will know that we usually say the greatest gift you can give is your time. And we still believe that. Volunteering your skills remains one of the most powerful ways to make a difference.

However, if you believe in our mission that charities deserve access to great financial skills, we would be incredibly grateful for your financial support. Because thanks to the Big Give, every pound donated will be doubled. We will share the link as soon as the campaign is live.

And if Charterpath is not the charity for you, please do take a look at the many other fantastic organisations taking part in the campaign. There are so many small charities out there doing extraordinary things.

Together, we can make double the difference.

About Charterpath

Charterpath CIO is a UK registered charity (1207509) charting a path between non-profits and volunteers with financial skills. Charterpath was co-founded by Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh, both chartered accountants with extensive volunteering and fundraising experience alongside their professional careers. They were inspired to start Charterpath in 2020, after seeing first-hand the unprecedented financial challenges facing the non-profit sector from the pandemic.
