This month our Charterpath Co-founders Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh were kindly invited to join Marks Sattin at their quarterly ‘All Hands’ at the glamorous location of the Curzon Bloomsbury - in this blog they share more on the special moment when Charterpath made it on to the big screen!
In the world of accounting, there's often a misconception that number crunching is the only thing that accountants do. But here at Charterpath, we know that the skills and expertise that accountants possess can be put to use in a whole range of different ways.
This idea was at the very heart of the partnership with Marks Sattin that we announced back in September 2022. Together, we're working to inspire more accountants to volunteer their time and expertise to non-profits. And the response since we launched the partnership has been nothing short of incredible.
Thanks to Marks Sattin, we've already seen a +25% rise in the followers of our Charterpath LinkedIn and a +50% jump in the number of signed up Charterpath volunteers. Specifically we've had over 50 volunteer accountants who have discovered Charterpath through Marks Sattin - and have now pledged to give at least 2 days of their time each year, equating to over 100 volunteer days. And we're just getting started!
On 10th February 2023 our Charterpath co-founders Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh were invited to join Marks Sattin at their annual ‘All Hands’ meeting at the glamorous location of the Curzon Bloomsbury.
After the presentation of Marks Sattin latest results and their team prize giving - with some amazing cameo features from Carole Baskin, Jay from the Inbetweeners and Janice from friends all wishing the team congratulations - we took to the floor in directors chairs to answer questions from their UK team about the partnership and what they can do to help support the Charterpath.
The questions we received were thought-provoking and sparked some really interesting conversations.
We discussed how we can work together more including future joint events between Marks Sattin and Charterpath to encourage volunteers outside of London (building on the recent Colmore Collective breakfast in Birmingham), the benefits of volunteering for individuals to their broader professional career (networking, skills development, and finding a greater sense of purpose), and how people can find time in their busy lives for volunteering.
The answer? You have to make the time for your own development - it's 100 percent worth it!
Afterwards, we joined the team for drinks to celebrate our successes to date. It was great to meet so many of the Marks Sattin team in person, and to say a massive thank you to Alice Thynne and Cindy Mar Sousa from their marketing team and of course Alastair Paterson for producing an amazing Charterpath video and plenty of other materials to help promote Charterpath. It was also a pleasure to spend time with Matt Wilcox (MD of Marks Sattin) and Paolo Canoa (UK&I CEO of the wider GI Group) who both underlined the group’s commitment to giving back to the community particularly during this cost of living crisis.
Marks Sattin has set an ambitious target to sign up 200 Charterpath volunteers during the first year of our partnership - which would equate to over one year of time donated by accountants to non-profits. With 50 sign-ups already in the bank and plenty of fun and inspiring activities planned for the coming months, we're super excited to see how quickly we can achieve this together.
All in all, it was an awesome afternoon - and particularly impressive for Alex to have done the whole thing on crutches after an intensive operation on his ankle only the week before. Here's to many more successful collaborations between Charterpath and Marks Sattin!

About Charterpath
Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh co-founded Charterpath as a community interest company in 2020, with a mission to increase the proportion of accountants volunteering from 10% to 50% - inspiring more accountants to volunteer their time and skills, connecting them with non-profit opportunities, and engaging with a wide range of organisations so volunteering is a core part of an accountant’s career.
