A big Charterpath hello from Alice & Alex

With lots of new Charterpath followers over the past few months we thought we’d quickly re-introduce Alice & Alex and what led them to found Charterpath last year.

Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh first met a whopping 16 years ago in spring 2006 at PwC in London where they both trained and qualified as chartered accountants with ICAS.

They quickly became great friends over their shared love of chatting and tennis! Working together for many years on client audits as diverse as Rexam PLC (worlds leading beverage van maker) and The Lawn Tennis Association — a particular highlight was playing tennis alongside Jamie Murray at the National Tennis Centre!

They were reunited in 2010 when Alice joined Alex at the merchant banking group Close Brothers — working together on the Bank’s strategy and everything / anything in between including a sideline in the groups CSR activities…

Over this time they had also started to fundraise and volunteer alongside and outside of work for non profits with Alice helping The Passage (initially as volunteer van driver!) and Alex became a school governor for Varndean School in his hometown of Brighton.

It was on a rainy 100km / 24 hour charity trek together along the Thames in autumn 2016 where they first bounced around the idea of how to get more accountants to volunteer their skills to non-profits (to be fair there was lot of time to talk!).

Fastforward to early 2020… career moves had taken Alex to Klarna and Alice to C Hoare & Co. — but they had kept in touch and as the pandemic started to take hold and non profits were seriously struggling. they were compelled to launch Charterpath.

And so our mission at Charterpath is to inspire more accountants to volunteer their time and expertise to help non-profits — making it easier for accountants to connect with the right non-profit roles (& each other) and also engage the wider accountancy profession to promote the benefits of volunteering.

Our priority is to spread the word about Charterpath and encourage as many accountants as possible to follow Charterpath on our social channels (LinkedIn and Instagram) and get in touch if they’re interested in volunteering or helping Charterpath.

If the idea of volunteering your skills with a non-profit has caught your imagination - follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Follow Charterpath on LinkedIn for all the latest news, inspiration, and roles

  2. Have a look around our website at www.charterpath.org.uk for case studies, helpful resources, and live volunteer opportunities

  3. Sign the Charterpath pledge to show your support for our mission and volunteer your skills for at least 2 days each year

About Charterpath

Alice Clementi and Alex Marsh co-founded Charterpath as a community interest company in 2020, with a mission to increase the proportion of accountants volunteering from 10% to 50% - inspiring more accountants to volunteer their time and expertise, connecting them with non-profit opportunities, and engaging with a wide range of organisations so volunteering is a core part of an accountant’s career.
