About the organisation

Wyke Foodbank is a vital community hub dedicated to tackling food poverty, crisis, and social isolation. We believe in providing more than just emergency food parcels; we are committed to offering a warm, dignified, and relational space where individuals and families can find hope, practical support, and connection.

Integral to our operations is The Meeting Place Coffee Shop, a welcoming community space run alongside the foodbank. It serves as a safe environment for people to gather, share a hot drink, build relationships, and access wrap-around support. Together, the foodbank and the coffee shop form a holistic ecosystem of care in our local community.

Our Impact

  • Emergency Food Support: Providing essential food parcels and toiletries to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.

  • Community & Connection: Through The Meeting Place, we actively combat loneliness by fostering a supportive, inclusive, and relational environment.

  • Signposting & Advice: Helping clients access long-term solutions by connecting them with local support services, debt advice, and housing assistance.

About the role

We are seeking a Treasurer Trustee to join our dedicated board. At Wyke Foodbank and The Meeting Place, our Christian faith is the foundation of everything we do; it is the driving force behind our commitment to relational networking, community building, and serving our neighbours with dignity.

We are looking for a Treasurer who not only possesses strong financial acumen but who also personally shares this faith motivation and Christian ethos. You will be joining a team that views financial stewardship not just as a compliance exercise, but as a vital ministry that enables us to show unconditional care and build deep relationships within our community.

Key Responsibilities & Specific Tasks

As our Treasurer, you will oversee the financial health of the charity, ensuring our resources are stewarded wisely to support our frontline mission. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Oversight & Stewardship: Lead the Board’s duty to ensure proper financial records are kept and that we comply with Charity Commission requirements.

  • Budgeting & Planning: Oversee our annual budgeting process, working closely with the Operations Manager to align our financial planning with our operational goals.

  • Reporting: Present clear, accessible quarterly financial updates to the Board of Trustees, translating numbers into a narrative of community impact.

  • Internal Controls & Strategy: Advise the board on financial risks, cash flow forecasting, and the financial viability of new community initiatives at the Foodbank or The Meeting Place.

  • Year-End & Examination: Oversee the preparation of the annual accounts and liaise with our independent examiner.

Commitment & Meetings

  • Nature of Support: This is an ongoing, strategic trustee role rather than a short-term project. We are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term, relational connection with our team and our community.

  • Board Meetings: Attendance is required at our quarterly Board of Trustees meetings (4 times a year).

  • Working Groups: Outside of formal board meetings, the Treasurer will have occasional ad-hoc catch-ups (via phone or email) with the Operations Manager to discuss day-to-day financial questions.

  • Time Commitment: We estimate this role will require approximately 4 to 6 hours per month, with a slightly higher concentration during the year-end accounts preparation.
