About the organisation
Wellspring was started 31 years ago by Christian GPs and local clergy to fill the gap for mental health support which exists between NHS mental health and private counselling. It is still doing well to serve this purpose of providing professional low-cost counselling to anyone of any or no faith and with any type of issue. We provide affordble counselling for anyone over the age of 11 years old who may be struggling with low mood, anxiety, stress, bereavement, relationship breakdown, or trauma and so much more. We also provide wellbeing courses such as carers workshops and CBT workshops and have an excellent reputation locally for what we do. We are a training centre, providing sought after placements for students as well as a fantastic range of continuing professional development. All our staff are passionate about helping people who may be going through the worst points of their lives.
About the role
We need the Treasurer to be able to come to Board Meetings in Nailsea every two months for approximately 1.5 hours during Monday evenings. They will also ensure that accurate accounts are kept and pay roll is delivered. The role also includes:
- maintaining an overview of Wellpring's financial affairs
- ensuring effective measures, controls and procedures are in place
- reporting to the Board of Trustees about the financial health of the organisation
- ensuring proper accounting records are kept and liaison with the external auditor is carried out
- monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity
- advising on the financial implications of the charity's strategic plan
- acting as Company Secretary
- liasing with the Director and Senior Administrator as appropriate
Our ideal candidate
We need a finance professional with either knowledge or an understanding of the charity sector. You will be a strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity. You need to be a clear communicator with the ability to bring financial information alive to non-finance experts! You will play an active role in the Board and in forecasting, setting budgets etc.
We would like you to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to a team of caring people and also broaden the diversity of our thinking on the Board. You should have enthuisasm for our vision and mission to provide affordable help for those in mental or emotional distress.
