About the organisation
Waverley hoppa is the Community Transport operator for Waverley Borough, founded in 2002 by Waverley Borough Council and Surrey Country Council. Our mission is to provide door-to-door transport for those people who cannot drive through age, disability or who live in remote parts of the county, away from traditional bus services. We have an excellent reputation for reliable and friendly service with the communities and customers we serve in and around Farnham, Godalming, Cranleigh and Haslemere.
hoppa is an independent charity, run by a well-established and efficient Board of Trustees, with a professional management team, run by the General Manager.
About the role
The role of hoppa’s Board of Trustees is to govern, direct and administer the affairs of the organisation in the best interest of its beneficiaries while adhering to the organisation’s Articles of Association and Charity Commission Guidelines.
hoppa has 8 trustees who give their time and the benefit of their collective experience on a voluntary basis and take on specific responsibilities and roles within the organisation.
The members of the current Board of Trustees have individual responsibilities for Strategy and Risk; Finance; Operations; Fundraising; Health and Safety; Legal; Marketing; and Digital.
The Finance Trustee role advises the other Trustees, and hoppa's general manager, on all aspects of finance related to the operation. Involvement includes commentary and analyis of monthly management accounts (produced by a bookkeeper), preparation of forecasts and annual budgets, as well as ad-hoc projects.
Our current Trustee with responsibility for Finance has served with us for the last 15 years and is now looking to retire after completion of this year's audit. We are looking to appoint soon, to enable a structured handover process.
Time commitment is estimated as 3 hours per month to prepare the financial analysis and attend the monthly Board/Management meeting. Around 42 hours throughout the year to fulfil other commitments associated with this position.
Our ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience of financial accounting and the production of meaningful management information.
Charity accounting experience would be a benefit, as would being a qualified accountant, but neither of these are essential.
What’s in it for you
The applicant will benefit from being part of an experienced team of Trustees, in an environment that is fast-moving - facing challenges of funding, vehicle technology, rising operational costs and so on.
If you have relevant experience and are looking for an opportunity where you can be part of a happy and purposeful team while putting your skills to good use and giving back to the community, we would love to hear from you.
