About the organisation
Watford Women's Centre was established in 1989 by a group of exceptional women who came together to volunteer their time and support to victims of sexual violence and rape in and around Watford.
Over the past 30 years the charity has developed a needs-led service, shaped by what local women tell us makes a real and lasting difference in their lives. We recognise that the challenges women face can often be complex and overwhelming, and we strive to reduce gender inequality, build trusting relationships and empower women to become independent, productive and healthy.
The charity has also been responsive to the needs of the wider community and we now deliver education and training services to men as well as women over the age of 18, who are in need of support in and around the Watford area and across Hertfordshire. Our domestic abuse services are for women only, and our Centre remains a safe space for them.
Our vision is to create a community wide culture that has zero tolerance for family or partner abuse and that fosters healthy relationships based on mutual respect and equality
Our mission is to provide life changing services for women to lead independent, productive and healthier lives, and also support our wider community

Our ideal candidate
We feel this role would be suitable for an early career accountant, or someone completing their accountancy training, and who would like to gain some practical expereince in a small voluntary sector organisation.
What’s in it for you
Watford Women's Centre is a well-respected and trusted charity in our area and we make a significant different to the lives of people in our community. Last year we delivered over 1000 volunteer counselling hours to nearly 100 women; offered nearly 690 support sessions to women with experience of domestic abuse; and helped around 850 men and women from the local area to access careers advice and training.
This opportunity will also offer you the chance to find out more about finance in the voluntary sector, and how this runs. We have a mixed income model (grants, contracts and donations) - so there would be exposure to a wide range of accounting practice (and probably some challenges!) to learn from.
Whilst our finance function is very much 'behind the scenes' without it - we couldn't do what we do. You will have the opportunity to find out more about our work, and if you are local, we would welcome you to the Centre (located in central Watford) to see what we do 'in action'.
Our Treasurer is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of experience in senior finance and leadership roles across the financial services, not-for-profit, charity, retail, and technology sectors. She has offered to support and mentor the volunteer in this role, supporting their professional development.
