We at Tushinde, meaning 'We Suceed' in Kiswahili, believe the best place for children to grow up is with their own families......
Tushinde is a charity working in Nairobi’s Mathare and Kiambiu informal settlements with over 500 vulnerable children. Through our social workers, we provide tailored family care and education to children from the poorest families in the Nairobi slums. We help families strengthen and stay together. We do this with our family support programme – providing families with a path from crisis to independence.
About the role
Tushinde is looking for a trustee with a financial background who is able to take on the role of Treasurer and provide support to Tushinde's senior management and financial staff.
The trustee would have the following responsibilities:
- Report to the quarterly board meetings on the financial position of Tushinde and any project work that has been undertaken for example audits / investigations / process improvements.
- Liaise with the finance team in Kenya, the UK bookkeeper and other finance volunteers to approve payments, review monthly transactions etc.
- Review and support the UK bookkeeper in the preparation and submission of the audited financial statements.
- Prepare, in conjunction with management, the annual budget and updated forecasts
The trustee would also be encouraged to get involved in non financial matters as appropriate.
Our ideal candidate
Experience and expertise in bookeeping, finance and accounting, including foreign exchange
Ability to recommend and implement systems and controls improvements
Knowledge of reporting to institutional donors or large grant making foundations, would be preferable
Good communication skills and the ability to teach and mentor others.
