About the organisation

Honour Thy Woman Group is a UK-registered charity supporting women affected by domestic abuse across Gloucestershire. Founded in March 2021, it has grown into a trusted community resource (Charity No. 1201016), building strong partnerships with local agencies and professionals to expand its reach and services. Its mission is to provide compassionate, person-centred support that helps survivors rebuild confidence, regain independence, and create positive futures.

The organisation delivers a range of services addressing the emotional, practical, and social needs of women in recovery. Its approach combines professional guidance with peer-led support, flexible delivery, and a focus on long-term wellbeing.

Peer Mentor Support offers one-to-one sessions with trained mentors who have lived experience of recovery. These sessions create a safe space for trust, validation, and resilience building as women navigate life after abuse.

The Domestic Abuse Recovery Programme, known as the Gateway Programme, provides structured sessions exploring topics such as understanding abuse, breaking cycles of control, safety planning, family dynamics, and moving forward. This programme is available both in small groups and on an individual basis.

Practical Advocacy and Signposting supports women in dealing with external systems. The charity assists with housing applications, legal processes, protection orders, and communication with agencies, while also connecting clients to additional services aligned with their needs.

Wellbeing and Creative Programmes include workshops, mental health sessions, journaling groups, and art-based activities. These encourage self-expression, connection, and healing, and are delivered both online and in person.

Emotional Support focuses on helping survivors understand and manage the psychological effects of abuse. Sessions cover emotional safety planning, emotional intelligence, and techniques to regulate responses in a supportive environment.

Women’s Support Services provide tailored advice for those not yet ready for structured recovery programmes. This includes guidance on housing, budgeting, counselling referrals, and peer-led advocacy to promote stability and independence.

Finally, the Family Unit Approach recognises the wider impact of abuse. These programmes support mothers and children together through activities that build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create safe spaces for emotional expression.

Through these services, Honour Thy Woman Group offers holistic, accessible support that empowers women and families to move forward with confidence.

About the role

What will you be doing?

By sharing your professional skills and financial insight, you will help ensure we continue delivering personalised support, practical advice and ongoing care to the women and children Honour Thy Woman support.

Their new Treasurer will be a key member of the Board of Trustees, responsible for providing strategic financial oversight and ensuring that Honour Thy Woman Group manages its resources responsibly, transparently, and in line with UK charity law.

Honour Thy Woman's new Treasurer will regularly report to the Board of Trustees on the organisation’s financial position and overall financial health. The Treasurer will also ensure that robust and appropriate financial controls, systems, and procedures are in place and operating effectively.

While the Treasurer holds specific responsibility for financial oversight, all Trustees remain jointly and severally responsible for the governance and administration of the Charity and share collective accountability and liability.

Our ideal candidate

Honour Thy Woman are seeking a Treasurer with strong financial literacy and confidence in managing budgets, alongside the ability to interpret and clearly communicate financial information. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (or qualified by experience), preferably with some knowledge of charity finance, although training can be provided. Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, integrity, independence, and sound judgement are essential, as is a commitment to the charity’s mission, values, and safeguarding standards.

They are particularly keen to attract candidates who value inclusion and are passionate about advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion across all areas of our work. They are committed to a fair and accessible recruitment process and welcome applicants to request any reasonable adjustments needed to support full participation.

As a small charity, Honour Thy Woman deeply value the time, commitment, and expertise of their Trustees. As a led-by-and-for-women organisation, all Board members must be women.

What’s in it for you

By joining the Board, you will receive a warm and supportive introduction to the organisation and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference—helping ensure survivors across Gloucestershire and beyond can access vital support services.

This role offers the chance to contribute to the next phase of development for a growing, survivor-centred organisation, while building leadership skills and gaining valuable governance experience. You will also benefit from working collaboratively with others who share a commitment to creating positive change, and from applying your professional skills within the voluntary sector in a meaningful way.
