About the organisation
The Visionaries is a UK-wide network of educators, youth practitioners, and young people driving nature-led change through transformative intergenerational programmes that focus on collective leadership, facilitation training, and evolving learning to support a regenerative future.
Our mission is to equip young people and adults across the UK with the tools, relationships, and resilience needed to lead the transition towards a just and regenerative society, ensuring future generations thrive in harmony with nature.
The Visionaries exists to address the deep disconnect between young people and the living world. This separation, which is the consequence of many generations of extraction, exploitation, alienation and oppression, has led to significant ecological degradation, with the UK among the most nature-depleted nations. It has also resulted in youth support systems, such as our education system, that leave youth ill-equipped to navigate the complex, uncertain futures they face. Younger generations are conditioned to prioritise knowledge acquisition and linear anthropocentric outcomes over the deeper work of self-development, resilience, and fostering a sense of ecological stewardship.
This disconnection fuels not only ecological crises but also perpetuates a culture stuck in psychological adolescence, with short-term, self-centred goals replacing a more mature, regenerative vision of collective wellbeing. The Visionaries, through a commitment to transformative, nature-connected education, aims to shift this paradigm—enabling young people to reconnect with their inner nature, find their place in the broader Earth community, and develop the creative courage needed to lead in a complex world.
About the role
Our Approach To Governance
The Visionaries team believe in participatory governance and our aim is that the charity is member-owned and member-led. Participatory governance is based upon individuals having a voice in decisions that affect them. In line with this approach, the role of the Board is to help set and keep us on track with our overall vision, strategy and overarching goals. The Board stewards the charity to achieve its objectives, whilst empowering The Visionaries’ members to lead projects and take action in line with our overall strategy.
Collectively, the Board of The Visionaries is responsible for:
- Helping set the strategic direction and overseeing the execution of the strategic plan.
- Ensuring fiscal responsibility, overseeing fundraising, assessing and optimising revenue generating activities and shepherding the organisation towards financial sustainability.
- Managing risk by putting financial controls in place; ensuring financial reporting is accurate; fulfilling legal and fiduciary duties; and managing any operational risks
- Maintaining connections with external persons, organisations, agencies, and any other bodies necessary to the development and functioning of The Visionaries.
- Ensuring the charity complies with its governing document as well as with charity law, company law, employment law and any other relevant legislation or regulatory requirements
- Helping to maintain a regenerative culture in The Visionaries, where we practice our 5 Guiding Principles and create a nurturing, inclusive and joyous work environment.
We anticipate that the initial priorities for the Treasurer will include:
- Ensuring the Board can assess performance against our strategic plan, and refine the strategy based on performance and financial viability, helping us to validate which propositions are working, and re-prioritising the limited resources of the organisation to best achieve the strategy.
- Working with the Director and the other Trustees to develop an effective business development approach, informing our approach to focus on longer term strategic partnerships, sustainable trading income and effective sales and marketing.
- Enhancing our internal processes and prioritisation of fundraising approaches, improving effectiveness of grant applications and potential philanthropic partnerships, drawing on external connections to secure the financial viability of the organisation.
- Validating the proposition of a community-led model, and preparing the organisation for operating at a larger scale whilst maintaining an effective participatory governance model.
More generally, the Treasurer will assist The Visionaries Board of Trustees and Director to carry out their financial responsibilities. This will include:
- Presenting financial reports to the Board in a format that helps the board understand the charity’s financial position
- Advising the other Trustees on how to carry out its financial responsibilities
- Overseeing the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts
- Taking on some or all day to day financial duties, such as book-keeping, budgeting and preparation of reports (to be discussed)
Our ideal candidate
The Visionaries is entering an unprecedented period of asset management and diversified income streams. We therefore seek someone with:

- Knowledge of financial analysis and controls, ideally with some knowledge of charity commission compliance
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders
- Problem analysis and proactive resolution skills
- Commitment to The Visionaries ethos, purpose and values
- Ability to communicate numbers as stories
- Agile and adaptive
The Treasurer will be required to:
- Attend 4-6 meetings a year, with some in-person attendance expected but not required
- Prepare for all meetings beforehand
- Initially work closely with the Director whilst The Visionaries takes ownership of new assets and programmatic responsibilities
- Work with the Board to maintain the organisations financial health and stability
- Carry out responsibilities with integrity and a commitment to The Visionaries ethics
