About the organisation

The Orrell Trust is a small charity, working in Bootle and surrounding areas, committed to improving our local community to make it a better place to live. Our bright, modern, well-equipped base provides a sustainable community facility in an area of deprivation and disadvantage which encourages community cohesion and benefits individuals and the wider community. We have an impressive track record of delivering projects that recognise and respond to the needs of our community, working to reduce loneliness and social isolation, and promote wellbeing.

About the role

The Treasurer supports the Board of Trustees in their strategic oversight of the finances of The Orrell Trust. Working closely with the Project Manager you will: 


  • Present financial reports to the board in an accessible format to help the Board understand the charity’s financial position 

  • Advise the Board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities

  • Liaise with professional advisors

  • Oversee the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts

  • Regularly review the charity’s financial controls

  • Take an active role in the development of the charity’s fundraising strategy

  • Be a signatory on The Orrell Trust bank account

Our ideal candidate

  • Have a positive attitude

  • Are dedicated and reliable

  • Are able to work as part of a team - Have experience of accounting systems

  • Are a good communicator

  • Are able to prepare reports and interpret data

  • Are passionate about improving the lives of people living in areas of economic and social disadvantage 


Desirable but not essential:

  • a working knowledge of charity law and experience of fundraising

Meetings of the Board of Trustees take place every two months, usually early evening on a Wednesday. Outside of meetings the role can be performed flexibly to suit your availability.
