About the organisation
Makaton is a comprehensive programme that combines signs, symbols and speech to support communication for adults and children with a learning difficulty or disability. The Charity operates as a social enterprise, with charitable status and our mission is to improve lives by enabling everyone to communicate successfully by using solutions that are effective and appropriate for them.
About the role
The Charity is looking for three new Trustees to join our existing and committed board. One of these Trustees will be a qualified senior finance professional with significant experience of guiding organsations through periods of growth and change. The Finance Trustee will be expected to participate fully in both the board and the Finance and Digital Committee, taking time to read and prepare for meetings and provide the appropriate level of guidance and supportive challenge to the CEO and SLT (5 people). This is a three year, voluntary role (renewable for a further 3 years), remote (most meetings on Zoom with occasional opportunities to meet F2F). Reasonable expenses will be met.
Our ideal candidate
Are you an experienced finance leader in looking to make a real difference? We are looking for an individual with extensive financial knowledge (Charity finance would be preferable but not essential) who is looking for voluntary role shaping the direction of an established Charity. We are entering an exciting phase of growth and development, particularly with our direciton in digital and membership and we need an additional member of the Board and Finance & Digital Committee. We would welcome a candidate willing to provide strategic guidance and supportive challenge to the CEO and Director of Finance. Specifically, the ideal candidate will have:
- Strategic vision and sound independent judgement
- Creative thinking and problem solving abilities
- An understanding of Charity legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship or willingness to undertake training.
- A commitment to and passion for our aims, objectives, vision and mission.
- Integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty and leadership.
