About the role

Finance Trustee (Volunteer)

Make a difference through financial leadership and help shape the future of a unique charitable organisation.

The Harry Edwards Foundation is a renowned healing charity based in the Surrey Hills with a mission to bring healing to all. For nearly 60 years, the Foundation has supported people locally, nationally, and internationally through spiritual healing, wellbeing services, and education. Operating from our beautiful country house sanctuary, we provide a welcoming environment where people can access healing and support their physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

In addition to our healing services, we offer a range of holistic programmes, including meditation, mindfulness,

yoga, and animal-assisted therapy. We are also home to a unique Healing Academy dedicated to training and developing future healers. Our work is carried out by a small staff team supported by more than 80 committed volunteers and is funded entirely through donations, fundraising, and supporter generosity.

We are seeking an experienced Finance Trustee to join our Board and help ensure the charity's long-term financial sustainability, strong governance, and continued growth.

As Finance Trustee, you will provide strategic financial oversight and work closely with fellow trustees and the senior leadership team. You will play a vital role in safeguarding the charity's assets, supporting sound financial management, and ensuring resources are used effectively to maximise impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with charity law, financial regulations, and governance requirements.
  • Reviewing budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and annual financial statements.
  • Overseeing financial controls, audit arrangements, and risk management processes.
  • Supporting the development of financial strategies that promote growth, sustainability, and resilience.
  • Advising on funding opportunities, income generation, investment decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Supporting fundraising and grant-funding initiatives.
  • Providing financial insight on partnerships, projects, and strategic initiatives.
  • Promoting transparency, accountability, and best practice in financial governance.
  • Contributing to Board discussions and strategic decision-making.

The role involves attending regular Board meetings, reviewing financial papers in advance, and occasionally supporting finance or governance sub-committees.

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for someone with a professional background in finance, accounting, audit, banking, or commercial financial management. You will have strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and an understanding of governance and risk management. Previous trustee experience is desirable but not essential.

Applications from qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent) are particularly welcomed.

What’s in it for you

This is an excellent opportunity to use your professional expertise to support a respected charity, gain valuable Board-level experience, and help secure the future of an organisation dedicated to improving health, wellbeing, and healing for people around the world. If you are passionate about making a positive difference and can bring financial insight and strategic thinking to our Board, we would be delighted to hear from you
