About the organisation
The Eddystone Trust is an independent organisation that was started in Plymouth in 1987 by a group of volunteers who were responding to the AIDS pandemic. Since then, the organisation has grown, working with other groups and organisations across the South West to offer access to a wide range of high quality services.
We are a progressive organisation and are continuously evaluating how we operate not only for our staff but also our service users.
Our overall aim is to enable people to engage in an open discussion about sexual health in the community. We are committed to improving the landscape for people living with HIV, along with working towards normalising the discussion around the subject of HIV and sexual health within the community.
We are also committed to eliminating and challenging the stigma and discrimination that continues to be prevalent for people living with HIV. As an organisation we undertake a range of activities which include outreach prevention, HIV & sexual health support and HIV testing. We also provide condom distribution and training for professionals from other organisations in order to help people make more informed choices when it comes to sex.
About the role
The Eddystone Trust is looking for passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the next chapter of our organisation.
For over 40 years, we have worked across the South West to improve sexual health, support people living with HIV, reduce stigma and ensure everyone has access to the information, support and services they need.
We are entering an exciting period of development, with new opportunities to strengthen our impact, build partnerships and shape how sexual health support is delivered across our communities. We are looking for trustees who can bring fresh perspectives, strategic insight and a commitment to our values.
As a trustee, you'll work alongside fellow Board members to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the charity. Trustees are responsible for acting in the best interests of The Eddystone Trust, ensuring we are well governed, financially sustainable, and delivering on our charitable purpose. As part of the role, you'll be expected to:
- Attend Board meetings and actively contribute to discussions and decision-making.
- Read meeting papers in advance and come prepared.
- Provide constructive support and challenge to the Executive Team.
- Contribute to reporting the outcomes, impact and evaluation of The Eddystone Trust.
- Act with integrity, confidentiality and in the best interests of the charity.
- Champion The Eddystone Trust and its work within your networks where appropriate.
- Comply with the legal duties and responsibilities of a charity trustee.
We understand that trustees have busy lives, so we aim to make the role rewarding, flexible and well supported. An induction and ongoing training will be provided, and you'll be joining a welcoming Board committed to making a positive impact.
Our ideal candidate

- Finance, governance and risk
- Fundraising and income generation

- Impact, evaluation and demonstrating outcomes
You do not need previous trustee experience. We are looking for people who are curious, collaborative and committed to making a difference.
As a trustee, you will play a key role in providing strategic leadership, supporting good governance and helping us achieve our ambition of making sexual health something everyone can access, understand and prioritise.
We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of the communities we support and those currently underrepresented in charity leadership and governance.
