About the organisation
Many people in the UK are prevented from accessing mainstream welfare benefits and social housing (known as ‘public funds’) because of their immigration status. This is called having ‘no recourse to public funds’ (NRPF) and can apply both to people who have visas, and to people who are undocumented.
This lack of a 'safety net' can leave people extremely vulnerable to destitution and homelessness.
The Care Rights Project assists migrants with no recourse to public funds to access local authority social care and support (including accommodation). We do this directly, by providing advice and advocacy to individual clients and indirectly, by offering training and a second tier advice service to other professionals working in the same space.
Our mission includes ending destitution among adults with care needs with no recourse to public funds, work towards a fair and humane system of accessing support under the Care Act 2014 and to secure decent and sufficient levels of support under the Care Act, enabling recipients to have their needs met in a dignified way.
