About the organisation

The mission of the Stratford upon Avon Foodbank is the prevention or relief of poverty in Stratford-upon-Avon and surrounding areas, in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies to individuals in need, partnering with charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.

About the role

 

Why we want you

We are seeking someone to join our Board of Trustees as a treasurer, working collaboratively with other trustees, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to help the food bank in pursuit of its Vision and Strategic Plan. The trustee will also be expected to lead on certain areas and initiatives, as required by the charity, and which utilises the trustee’s experience and skills.

Volunteering is a fantastic way for you to be involved in your local community and volunteers are at the heart of all that we do as a food bank. The role of volunteers who dedicate their time and skills to support people in crisis will continue to be critical as we work together to fulfil our vision of seeing a UK without the need for food banks.

 

What you will be doing

  • ensure that Stratford Upon Avon Foodbank complies with and pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity and company law, and other relevant legislation or regulations

  • give firm strategic direction to the food bank contributing to the food bank’s strategic plan, helping set policies, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets

  • lead and/or serve on sub-committees and attendance at various other meetings, including with the charity’s Staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.

  • provide support, advice, and guidance to the food bank bookkeeper

  • guide and advise the board of trustees in the approval of budgets, accounts, and financial statements, within a relevant financial policy framework, and keep other trustees informed about their financial duties and responsibilities

  • ensure that the accounts are properly audited and meet the external auditor regularly and present them to the trustee board, drawing attention to important points

  • ensure the organisation’s investment policy is consistent with its aims, objectives, and legal responsibilities

  • advise the trustees and management team on the financial implications of the food banks strategic plans, operational plan, and annual budget

  • confirm that the financial resources of the food bank meet their present and future needs

  • understand the accounting procedures and key internal controls to be able to assure the board that the charity’s financial integrity is sound.

 

Our ideal candidate

  • passion for helping and making a difference to people who do not have enough money to afford the essentials
  • strong and visible passion and commitment to the food bank
  • compassionate, honest, open, kind, non-judgmental, and act with integrity
  • ability to listen and engage effectively
  • ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.
  • financial management including budget reporting and accounting procedures, and being conversant with management accounts

 

Additionally knowledge and understanding of the Third Sector and the current issues affecting it will be a distinct advantage.
