About the organisation

Slade Gardens Community Play Association is in the heart of Lambeth, and offers more than an acre of safe, staffed space where children and young people can come to play, develop their skills, and make new friends.

We are open to children of every background between the ages of six and twenty one.

We believe that children thrive with positive social interactions, that play helps children develop responsibility through risk, and that children who can play freely develop strong social skills and positive connections with others in their community.

Our Advenure Playground welcomes 6 -16 year olds after school and during the holidays.

We also have an Under 5s Stay and Play program, community volunteer days in our edible garden, plant and honey sales, corporate volunteer opportunities, 17-21 employment and training programs, and we rent our premises for parties.

About the role

The role of the Treasurer is to:
· be responsible for paying staff on time and other costs
· review the charity’s financial performance in monthly meetings

· assist charity director providing financial information for grant applications
· make sure the charity keeps proper accounts, and to ensure that it has robust
and effective financial controls in place, such as adequate reserves
· liaise with the charity’s independent examiner/auditor to prepare and ensure that the annual accounts are available to be submitted to the Charity Commission
· report on financial matters to members and the local community at AGM

We meet 9 - 11 times per annum for an hour, usually on the premises (in Lambeth) for an hour early evenings, excluding August.

All trustees need a DBS check.

Our term is 3 years, renewable every for a max of 3 terms.

Our ideal candidate

We'd appreciate a candidate with a financial back ground. We need you to pay attention to detail, be analytical, and have good communication skills. We're hoping that you'd attend every meeting and be available to assist our Charity Director from time to time. It would be helpful if you are a resident of Lambeth.

What’s in it for you

We need a treasurer to help us keep providing the space and services our local children desperately need.

In our area there are an average of 12,020 residents per km square. This compares to an average of 5,600 for London and 366 for England as a whole. It's built up! Many local children have no access to outside space or gardens. Despite being located in the middle of idylic Georgian terraces, most of our adventurers live in the five adjacent social housing high rises. Sadly youth violence, gangs, drugs, poverty and childhood obesity all pose threats to our local children. COVID-19’s extended periods of isolation obstructed their development.

Our free at point of entry offers over an acre of safe, staffed space where children & young people can come to play, build confidence, make new friends, develop skills & try new things.

Your efforts help the children of Lambeth:

Thrive with positive social interactions

Develop responsibility through risk in the adventure play ground

Develop strong social skills and positive connections when playing freely with others in their community

Need space to take responsibility, explore and challenge themselves.
