About the organisation
SEDSConnective is an award-winning, highly respected, small, voluntary charity uniquely focused on neurodivergence and hypermobility, offering trustees the chance to make a real difference. We have no executive Board or salaried staff. We are there to support neurodivergent people, families and carers with symptomatic hypermobility to live safe and fulfilled lives.
About the role
The Treasurer plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the charity. As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will oversee the charity’s financial management, ensuring that resources are effectively allocated and that all financial activity aligns with both legal requirements and our mission. You will work closely with the Board and our finance volunteers to provide transparent reporting, support strategic planning and help guide our financial strategy for the future.The Treasurer plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the charity. You will join a finance volunteer team with book keepers and bank admin.
Time Commitment: Trustees have a 3 year term but happy to onboard over time to get to know us or share the role with another as financial accountants with the same experience and qualities.
This is a strategic and operational role within part of SEDSConnective so a small grassroot charity. We ask for
- Attendance at quarterly Board meetings / subcommittee meetings
- Additional availability during financial reporting periods and annual audit. Ideally time to commit to our growth but this can be a shared role with a finance accountant.
Our ideal candidate
- Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally within the charity neurodivergent or disability sector or in a similar nonprofit environment
- Strong understanding of charity finance, accounting, and reporting requirements, including charity law and SORP guidelines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and Xero; comfortable using digital tools for communication and collaboration
- Ability to analyse complex financial information and communicate it clearly to non-finance Board members.
- Some experience of charity finance
- Ability to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.
- Ability to organise and initiate the finance team subcommittee meetings
- Being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board.
- A willingness to be available to other volunteers for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

WE also welcome making your connections and networks see our important work. We do not say this lightly but we know our work is now being considered in many places. We are open to considering a part-share arrangement for this role, where an accountant splits their time between SEDSConnective and another organisation. If this applies to you, please do mention it.
