About the organisation

Roundabout is a charity working to overcome disadvantage and waste based near Evesham, Worcestershire. We do this by redistributing unwanted furniture and household goods to those in need in Worcestershire and parts of Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Set up in 1994, we're an award-winning charity (Queen's Award for Voluntary Service) run by a small team of employees supported by 40+ volunteers, of which over a third are living with or recovering from mental health issues and/or have a physical disability. We work closely with social services, CAB

and other local charities.

We've recently hired a new manager and made a number of key investments in critical areas of the charity. We're looking for a Finance Volunteer to join our Board of Trustees. Now is an ideal time to join Roundabout as we look to refocus how we can best serve the community.

The volunteer role will work closely with other Roundabout Board trustees, Roundabout Manager, book-keeper and other employees along with the charity's external accountant and independent examiner.

About the role

We are looking for a new Finance Volunteer to help take the organisation forward following a period of change. The role is working alongside our book-keeper, who also prepares the quarterly accounts and annual returns, advising the board on investment aspects and financial risks.

Based near Evesham in Worcestershire, you will be part of the small team of employees plus a large group of volunteers, delivering real change in people's lives.

Working closely with our board of trustees, you will also help shape our future strategy as we seek to meet the growing need from those in our local community struggling to help themselves.

the Board informed of its financial responsibilities

● Present the annual accounts at the Annual General Meeting

● Lead on the development, implementation and periodic review of an

appropriate reserves and investment policy

● Identify financial risk and help to develop plans to mitigate risk

● Liaise with the external accountant and independent examiner as

required

● Ensure that the accounts are audited in the manner prescribed by

regulations, and that any recommendations of the independent

examiner/auditor are implemented in timely manner

● To work with and provide guidance, direction and support to the

Roundabout Manager and our Bookkeeper as necessary

Our ideal candidate

We're looking for someone who is interested in a rewarding volunteer role in a small but highly effective charity.

You will have extensive experience in finance and/or accounting, gained either in a commercial setting or a charity. Ideally, you will have a recognised financial qualification though this is not essential. Ideally, you will have relevant experience as an accountant or finance manager, auditor or former treasurer. You will also have knowledge and experience of current finance practice, ideally (though not essential) relevant to charitable organisations.

We're looking for someone who shares and supports our values as a charity. You will be capable of communicating to different stakeholder groups. Patience, pragmatism and empathy will be required. There are no set hours. The role is what you make it but we're looking for someone who is able and willing to commit a small amount of time and energy in supporting the Roundabout charity.
