About the organisation

Refugee Futures works with partners in Stockton-on-Tees to ensure local opportunities are accessible to refugees and people seeking asylum, and that they are able to maximise their abilities and connect with and feel included in the local community. Ultimately, we hope more people will opt to remain in Stockton once their status is secured.

We are a relatively new charity with a board of six trustees which leads the governance of the organisation, chaired by Peter Chapman and supported by the executive director, Heather Petch, OBE and a small, committed team of staff and volunteers.

About the role

We are actively seeking a Trustee Finance Lead to help us: deliver our mission and be a sustainable and trusted charity which manages the money it is entrusted with wisely; complies with relevant legal requirements; and, manages risk appropriately. For this role we are looking for someone with accounting or relevant financial expertise but training in the responsibilities of a charity trustee will be provided, if necessary.

All board members have responsibility for working together to ensure the charity’s resources are well managed, including its finances. We believe that we would benefit from have a trustee who is able and willing to support the board in its role of ensuring effective financial oversight.

We expect trustees to commit to one day of training and introductions (including online sessions you can undertake in your own time), attend Board meetings - six two-hour meetings a year plus one all-day meeting - and to give adequate time to prepare for these meetings, approximately 2 – 3 hours per meeting.
