About the organisation

We’re Oxfordshire Mind, your local mental health charity, working hard every day to make sure that everyone in Oxfordshire and across Berkshire West gets good mental health support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding. We are a federated network including 112 affiliated local Minds across England and Wales, with a strong co-production ethos.

The Mind in Berkshire programme is a collaboration between Oxfordshire Mind and Buckinghamshire Mind, aimed at increasing third sector capacity to deliver mental health support across Berkshire. The two local Minds are already delivering a range of services to Berkshire residents, and we now have permission to use the name ‘Mind in Berkshire’ which recognises our Berkshire presence, and ongoing commitment to developing and strengthening mental health awareness and support in this area.

About the role

We are specifically looking for a person with the skills, knowledge and experience to act as Treasurer. We are an organisation with over 150 employees, and a turnover in excess of £6m. We need an experienced person who can advise the Board on all financial matters as well as providing advice as to how we can weather the approaching perfect storm of the cost of living crisis, reduced NHS expenditure, and the need to raise significant new funds.

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for a Trustee specifically to take on the role of Treasurer.

We would also like Trustees to have knowledge and/or experience of some of the following:

1. Lived experience of mental health issues facing children and young people

2. Lived experience of mental health issues facing adults

3. Experience connected with fundraising

4. Experience in NHS or local mental health commissioning

5. Experience in charity governance including health and safety and GDPR

6. Experience in IT

Please note, should your application be successful we will require a complete DBS check before confirming your position.

What’s in it for you

Although this is an unpaid role, we hope that working with Oxfordshire Mind will be a satisfying and mutually beneficial experience. You will have the opportunity to work with other trustees, who bring a wealth of experience in the field of mental health, and other aspects of governance and support in a mental health charity. Yiou will work with the Senior Management Team - dedicated, knowledgeable employees experienced in delivering care for people with mental health needs, and with volunteers and support staff who give up their time and expertise to support others. Experience of working with other trustees suggests that the opportunity to give back to the community is one that many people aspire to, especially if they have their own lived experience of mental health problems. This role will do that.
