About the organisation
The parish of Morwenstow is a small remote community in the very north of Cornwall. Our local shop in the village is set to close and we wish set up a community shop but would also seek to expand its use into a Community
Hub: bringing in services that will enhance and improve the lives of the
community. It will be owned and run by the community of Morwenstow. Our aim
is to provide a wide range of affordable and sustainable products, using
local suppliers wherever possible.
In addition to the traditional shop and café we are planning to provide many
additional services which are difficult to access in this remote area, such as
advice/health clinics, IT Hub, repair shop and meeting places to combat isolation
and loneliness. We are a not-for-profit community benefit socieity, so we will
re-invest any surpluses carefully back into the business. Any additional surplus
will remain in the community, supporting local projects.
About the role
We have formed a steering committe and registered as a Community Benefit Society. We are at the planning stage and are working on our business plan, community share offer and seeking to get approval for SEIS. We are looking for a person who can provide additional guidance in these areas
Our ideal candidate
Strong accounting or financial management experience.
Proficiency in financial reporting and compliance.
Leadership and communication skills.
Planning budgets, reports, and financial updates to the board.
Oversee financial systems and controls.
Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements.
What’s in it for you
If this project suceeds it will make a huge difference to the lives of the whole of our community. Although we are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, we are isolated and suffer from rural deprivation. Our nearest shop is 6 miles and most services are much further. With an ageing population we very much need to have a shop and hub. With your financial help and knowledge we can make this happen
