About the organisation
METRO was established in 1984 in response to the development of the Greater London Council's Lesbian & Gay Charter, Changing the World.
For four decades, METRO Charity has championed health and wellbeing across diverse communities, with a strong focus on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. We run services for people who experience health inequalities. Our tailored HIV and sexual health services target people who need support the most. Our mental health drop-in, for LGBTQ+ people, is the only service of its kind in London. For young people, we run youth groups and counselling for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and those questioning their gender identity or identify in another way (LGBTQ+). For all ages, we provide HIV information & advice, counselling and peer support groups & mentors. We have grown over the past two decades as a charity via a combination of mergers and new contract awards and are now able to consolidate and revitalise our vision and mission. It has been a time of great change at METRO and now more than ever we need to be clear about who we are, our strengths and our weaknesses and to come to the table with an offering of unique person-based services that changes people’s live
