About the organisation

Link UP London connects people with professional skills to London based charitable organisations on short-term, structured Volunteer Projects to help these organisations develop their capacity, reach more people and make a bigger impact in their communities.

We are currently seeking a Skilled Volunteer to place with Unofficial Guides, a Community Interest Compnay who aims to level the playing field by breaking down barriers to career opportunities in the civil service and wider public sector. Through honest advice, practical tools, and real insights, they support people from underrepresented backgrounds to navigate complex recruitment processes with confidence. Their resources are designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, location, or background.

About the role

Unofficial Guides are dedicated to helping people from underrepresented backgrounds access careers in the civil service through honest advice and practical tools. Demand for their services has grown quickly, and they are now supporting a mailing list of over 4,000 people and delivering workshops to more than 2,000 participants in just a few months. As they prepare to launch paid services, start accepting donations, and apply for funding, they’re looking for advice on how to set up strong, clear, and compliant financial systems.

They are seeking a Skilled Volunteer for:

  • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Help set up clear budgets, track income and expenses (including donations and profit), and build sustainable financial plans.
  • Processes and Systems Advice: Recommend suitable accounting tools and create simple, scalable workflows for managing day-to-day finances.
  • Compliance: Provide guidance on CIC financial responsibilities, tax requirements, and best practices for transparency and reporting.

Our ideal candidate

The ideal volunteer will be confident in budgeting, financial planning, and compliance, and able to offer practical guidance to help build strong, scalable financial systems.

What’s in it for you

Your support will help Unofficial Guides build strong financial foundations, allowing the team to focus on expanding their impact. As a result, you will directly help make access to civil service roles in the UK more equitable, encouraging more diverse representation in our public sector.
