About the organisation

We are a team of nature-loving creatives with a mission to encourage more people to access, enjoy and protect our natural world. Our organisation is a Leicester based community interest company aiming to immerse the people of Leicester and Leicestershire in the wonders of the natural world through the medium of art.

We want to empower those that feel powerless given the complexity and enormity of climate change. We help communities take small, climate friendly actions by delivering fun, family friendly workshops and engagement through visual art and craft, music and creative writing.

Our work aims to foster emotional connections with nature to promote social and environmental change at a local level. We work with diverse communities across the county and beyond, aiming to reach families that would not usually or often access arts and climate activities.

Our events and workshops are free, pay-as-you-feel or low cost, as we know that cost to participate in these tough times can be a barrier. Our last open call exhibition 'Our Earth' in partnership with Leicester College and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, attracted entries from young people in 22 countries across the world! Selected artworks were displayed digitally and screened in our 3 day event in Highcross Shopping Centre.

About the role

We are looking for an accountant to help us understand the tax return process and improve our knowledge of accounts for our CIC.

We are seeking advice from an experienced professional to check our profit & loss account, help prepare our balance sheet and any other necessary information. We have simple accounting records kept in Excel and now need to submit to HMRC and Companies House.

We want one of our directors to learn how to prepare the accounts and become more confident in bookingkeeping in order for us to maintain and submit our own accounts in the future.

Ideally we want a candidate who is willing to answer specific questions and build our accounting knowledge. This role will be a short time role, for advice and overseeing via email or video call. Therefore the volunteer can be remote.

Our ideal candidate

The ideal candidate for this role cares about nature and the climate crisis.

They will have experience of filing annual returns for small community interest companies. They are patient and can use lay-terms to explain financial information to someone with less knowledge. They can reliably respond to emails within 2-3 working days and commit 5 - 10 hours of volunteering to this project in the next 3-4 months.

What’s in it for you

By volunteering for Insecta Collective CIC you will be indirectly benefiting the community of Leicester, as well as young people around the world. Without a better understanding of accounting, our organisation may struggle to sustain itself, as we cannot currently afford the cost of an accountant. A volunteer will be upskilling us, to improve our operations for future growth and development. As an organisation that encourages people to consider and make sustainable choices, your volunteer work will underpin our operations, providing interventions that elicit climate and nature compatible behaviour. We would also like to support the excellent work you do, by featuring your profile and contact information on our website.
