About the organisation
Inkpots Youth Mentoring is a mid-Sussex-based charity (able to work across West and East Sussex) that provides early-intervention mentoring and personal development support for children and young people, particularly those who are quieter, lacking in confidence or facing disadvantage. Our work focuses on building self-trust, emotional resilience and practical life skills through calm, consistent support. We work in partnership with schools and community organisations to create safe, supportive spaces where young people feel heard, understood and better equipped to navigate change, challenge and transition.
Our work brings support to the young people who need it most, helping them to:
- Feel seen, valued, and supported, sometimes for the first time.
- Build genuine self-confidence and life skills, not just performance-based confidence.
- Develop resilience, independence and the ability to advocate for themselves.
- Learn to mentor others, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and connection.
- Navigate school transitions more smoothly, reducing disengagement or drop-out risks.
- Access support regardless of their background, through our networks, school partnerships and community connections.
Our values
These values guide everything we do. They are the threads that hold Inkpots Youth Mentoring together – in every conversation, partnership and decision.
- Respect We listen deeply and genuinely welcome opinions. Our spaces are inclusive, kind and free from judgement or prejudice.
- Fairness We believe every young person deserves the right access to opportunity and understanding. We notice and challenge inequity wherever we see it.
- Balance We hold compassion and accountability in equal measure. We create calm, thoughtful support that allows growth to happen safely.
- Clarity We aim to make things simpler – for young people, families and schools – by offering a joined up transparent approach
- Consistency We build trust through reliability and care. Change doesn’t come from quick fixes, but from steady relationships that young people can depend on.
About the role
We are a new micro-charity with big ambitions. Therefore, we are looking for someone to act as our treasurer to help us achieve those dreams for the young people we work with. Although we are new, we have received consultancy support in setting up so our foundations are strong. We aniticipate that this work will need four to six hours per month including trustee meetings, preparation and occasional events. The ideal candidate will be liaising with our experienced CEO to help prepare budgets, especially for funding bids. Other areas which may be covered include:
- presenting financial reports to the board in a format that helps the board understand the charity’s financial position
- advising the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities
- overseeing the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts
Our ideal candidate
Naturally, we are looking for someone who has a financial background. But enthusiasm, positivity and a belief in the young people we work with is essential. Many of them are struggling to find their place at school, with friends and in their communities so empathy with that is needed.
What’s in it for you
- You will be involved in a charity which makes a real difference in young people’s lives
- You will have the challenge and reward of being part of something new and innovative
- You will be working in a creative, supportive environment
- You will gain professional development – working alongside other professionals with many years’ experience in a range of sectors including commercial, charity and teaching.
- You will feel valued and supported
- You will get a chance to sample many cakes in the process of our time together.
