About the organisation

Bridging the Gap (Manchester) is a registered Charity. Our Board of Trustees is made up of a strong female leadership team with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector and expertise in health, social housing, community development and positive activism.

Manchester South Central Foodbank opened in April 2014 in response to the need for a foodbank that covered the Hulme, Moss Side and Whalley Range areas. We are a small local charity established by local people who are concerned about isolation and food poverty in the area.

At our launch the Trustees said: “The current economic climate means more and more people are struggling to put food on the table, so we really need local citizens to give what they can to help. It’s not just people on low incomes who are feeling the pinch at the moment, increased redundancy and fewer jobs are having a real financial impact on local people”.

We franchise our service from a national foodbank organisation (the Trussell Trust) which ensures we adhere to certain standards and that our work is monitored and good practice is promoted.
