About the organisation

A school is more than just a place where students come to learn. It is also a place where a community develops and thrives. At Hove Park, it is a place where we come together to support each other achieve whether it is in the classroom learning, on the sports field competing or on the stage performing, we know that success comes from us all working together.

The governors at Hove Park School and Sixth Form are drawn from different parts of our community, including a strong representation of parents and carers. The Governing Body draws upon the diversity of views and experience of its members to carry out its role; we act as a “Critical Friend” to support the work of the Head teacher, senior leadership and other staff. School governors are the strategic leaders of our school, and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education, within a safe, stimulating and highly professional environment.

Our overriding aim as governors, together with the school staff, is to ensure that all our students at Hove Park receive a high quality education in a safe and caring environment. We believe every child is capable of outstanding achievement. We recognise the key role that parents and carers play in the educational partnership between students, school, college and the wider community and therefore welcome any views, issues and concerns

hey may wish to bring to our attention.

About the role

The Governing Body’s role is to support the strategic direction of the school. This is an important and exciting opportunity to contribute to the outcomes and experiences of all Hove Park students.

Being a governor is a valuable role that will have an impact on your personal and professional life, while meeting new people, being part of a team, and learning more about how the school works. Above all, you will make a real difference to the young people in our school and local community.

You will join the Full Governing Body that meet every half term. You will also join the Resources Committee who meet once per term.

The Governing Body's statutory responsibilities include:

- Oversight of budgets and financial risk management.

- Ensuring regulatory compliance.

- Providing strategic insights to align finances with organisational goals.

- Monitoring long-term sustainability.

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for a governor with professional finance experience to join our team. Nationally, school finances have been challenging over recent years. At Hove Park School, these challenges have been magnified given the falling numbers of children living in the City and the split site nature of our school.

We have a strong team of governors but are keen to further strengthen the finance skills of our governing body. You will provide support and challenge to school leaders on all areas of school life but with strong finance or governance experience.

We are especially keen to encourage those from under-represented groups to apply, such as black and minority ethnic backgrounds. Nearly 40% of Hove Park students are from ethnic minorities and it’s important the governing body reflects and represents the diverse communities and cultures that make up our wonderful community at Hove Park School.

Please remember that you do not need to have experience of working in education to apply – training and support is provided. But a willingness to learn, listen and the time to get involved is essential!
