About the organisation

The Honorary Treasurers Forum is a national membership charity dedicated to supporting charity treasurers and promoting excellence in charity finance and governance. We help treasurers develop their skills, confidence and effectiveness, enabling them to make a greater contribution to the charities they serve.

The Forum is a small but effective membership charity with approximately 300 individual members, 36 corporate members and the support of our sponsor, CCLA.

Over the past five years we have become financially sustainable and built reserves that enable us to invest in future development. We are highly regarded by our members and respected across the charity sector for our expertise, collaborative approach and commitment to improving financial leadership within charities.

We are supported by a small team of part-time contracted staff, including a CEO, a Marketing and Communications Lead and a Bookkeeper.

As we implement our new strategy, we are investing in our digital capability, website redevelopment, use of AI and member services to ensure we continue to meet the evolving needs of charity treasurers.

About the role

We are seeking a new financially skilled trustee to join our Board (as well as seeking trustees with digital transformation, marketing and communications, technology and AI skills) as we embark on an exciting new phase of development.

These are strategic leadership roles offering an opportunity to help a well-respected charity modernise its services, strengthen its profile and increase its impact across the UK charity sector.

Time Commitment

· The Board meets quarterly

· Two meetings each year are held in person in London

· Two meetings each year are held online

· Trustees are encouraged to attend key member events and receptions

Trustees are also invited to support and chair Forum events. With a larger Board, this would typically involve no more than two one-hour online events annually, together with attendance at our summer and autumn in-person events in London.

Our ideal candidate

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who:

· Share our commitment to supporting charity treasurers and strengthening the charity sector

· Have senior-level experience in one or more of our priority areas

· Can think strategically and contribute to long-term organisational development

· Understand the importance of good governance and collective decision-making

· Are willing to provide both support and constructive challenge

· Work collaboratively and value diverse perspectives

· Have sound judgement, integrity and a commitment to our values

· Desirable experience

It would be beneficial, but not essential, if you have:

· Experience of membership organisations

· Knowledge of the charity, voluntary or social enterprise sectors

· Experience of organisational growth, digital transformation or change management

· Previous board or trustee experience

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who can help broaden the diversity of experience, perspectives and backgrounds represented on our Board.

What’s in it for you

By joining our Board, you will play a key role in helping The Forum evolve into a more digitally enabled, visible and impactful organisation.

Your expertise will help us:

· Grow and engage our membership
