About the organisation
Goals 4 Girls (G4G) is a football and wellbeing charity based in the London Borough of Newham,We deliver sports led social development programmes for girls aged 8–16 from disadvantaged communities, using football as a powerful tool to build confidence, resilience and further opportunities. Newham is one of the most diverse and deprived boroughs in London, with a higher proportion of residents experiencing poverty and poorer health and educational outcomes than the national average.
Founded by former Manchester City footballer Francesca Brown, Goals 4 Girls is dedicated to removing barriers to sports participation and improving wellbeing outcomes for young girls who are often excluded from traditional sporting pathways. Our programmes increase participation in physical activity by uniquely blending football, wellbeing & personal development programmes designed to help girls lead more active & healthier lives.
Girls from marginalised communities in London face higher dropout rates in sports and education, poorer mental health, & limited access to culturally sensitive sports spaces which meets their diverse needs. Also, with fewer visible role models, structural inequalities in education, society & sports; many girls disengage in these by adolescence. G4G breaks these cycles by addressing under representation of minorities, mental health, building confidence, & creating sustainable pathways for girls to succeed in & beyond sport.
