About the organisation

Global Clubfoot Initiative (GCI) is a UK‑registered charity and the leading international umbrella organisation dedicated to ensuring that every child born with clubfoot can access the treatment they need to walk, play, and thrive. Working across more than 70 countries, GCI brings together a network of over 60 organisations that collectively support tens of thousands of children each year. By uniting clinical teams, national programmes, and global partners, GCI strengthens the systems that make high‑quality clubfoot treatment accessible, sustainable, and effective.

Founded in 2010, GCI’s vision is a world free from the preventable disability caused by untreated clubfoot. Clubfoot affects around 1 in 850 children globally, and while it can be corrected using a low‑cost, minimally invasive method, many children—particularly in low‑ and middle‑income countries—still lack access to treatment. Without care, the condition leads to lifelong disability, social exclusion, and a loss of educational and economic opportunity. With treatment, children can participate fully in school, community life, and future employment. This life‑changing impact is what drives GCI’s mission.

GCI’s work centres on three core pillars: advocacy, collaboration, and education. The organisation advocates for national and global recognition of clubfoot as a treatable condition, supports policy development, and raises awareness about the urgency and cost‑effectiveness of treatment. Through collaboration, GCI facilitates knowledge‑sharing across its network, connecting partners to best practice, resources, and training. Its educational work strengthens clinical capacity, providing training materials and support that help clinicians deliver consistent, high‑quality care.

A cornerstone of GCI’s strategy is RunFree2030, its global initiative focused on scaling effective clubfoot treatment programmes worldwide. This strategy supports countries to build strong national systems, expand trained clinical workforces, and develop long‑term plans to meet the needs of children with clubfoot. By working across governments, NGOs, and clinical networks, GCI helps create sustainable, country‑led solutions.

GCI is governed by a committed Board of Trustees and run by a small, dedicated team who work closely with global partners. The charity’s values—sustainability, empowerment, impact, excellence, and collaboration—shape a supportive and purpose‑driven culture in which volunteers can make meaningful contributions.

Volunteers play a vital role in strengthening GCI’s work. Whether offering specialist expertise in finance, governance, operations, or strategy, volunteers help build the organisational foundations that allow GCI and its partners to reach more children. Joining GCI means contributing your skills to an ambitious, global mission that transforms lives and expands opportunities for children around the world.

What’s in it for you

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by strengthening the financial foundations of a growing charity and supporting the development of an existing member of staff. By sharing your expertise, you will help us build stronger financial systems and processes that allow our organisation to operate more effectively and sustainably.

Our charity has an annual turnover of around £500k and delivers programmes that directly support our community. Strong financial systems enable us to manage funding responsibly, report effectively to our trustees and funders, and ultimately ensure that resources are directed where they are needed most. Your support will therefore have a direct impact not only on our internal capability but also on the people and communities our work reaches.

A key element of this role is mentoring and skills development. You will have the opportunity to support and guide a member of staff who already has some finance experience but would benefit from structured support in areas such as financial systems, management reporting, and best practice processes. Helping someone grow into greater confidence and capability in finance can be a particularly rewarding aspect of volunteering.

The role also provides the opportunity to apply your professional experience in a different context. Many volunteers find that working with charities allows them to use their financial skills in practical and creative ways, helping organisations develop systems that are proportionate, efficient, and sustainable. You will be able to contribute strategically while also seeing tangible improvements in how financial information is produced and used.

For those interested in the charity sector, this role offers valuable insight into how a small-to-medium sized organisation operates. You may have opportunities to engage with our leadership team and trustees, gaining a deeper understanding of governance, funding models, and the challenges and opportunities faced by charities.

Volunteers also often value the opportunity to broaden their professional network and connect with others who are passionate about social impact. Through our organisation and through Charterpath, you will be joining a community of professionals committed to strengthening the voluntary sector.

The time commitment is designed to be flexible, with an initial period of slightly higher engagement while systems and processes are reviewed and improved, followed by a lighter-touch mentoring relationship. This allows you to make a meaningful contribution while balancing other professional or personal commitments.

Above all, this role offers the opportunity to use your financial expertise to support a charity’s long-term sustainability and to help build the confidence and capability of the people who keep our organisation running.
