About the organisation

Glaven Caring is a small, community focused charity supporting residents in the Glaven Valley area of North Norfolk. Our day centre provides care comfort and companionship to both the elderly and those suffering memory loss as well as offering information, practical and emotional support to unpaid carers caring for someone. We provide practical help and services to improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and support independence.

About the role

Option 1: Volunteer Treasurer (Non-Trustee)

  • Focused on day-to-day financial oversight and reporting
  • Supports the Board but is not a member of the Trustee Board
  • Ideal for someone who prefers a practical finance role without governance responsibilities

Option 2: Trustee Treasurer

  • A full member of the Trustee Board
  • Shares responsibility for the strategic governance of the charity
  • Provides financial leadership and input into decision-making

Key Responsibilities (both roles, with scope depending on option)

· Oversee or manage the financial affairs of the charity

· Maintain or review accurate financial records

· Monitor income, expenditure, and cash flow

· Prepare and present financial reports

· Support preparation of:

o Annual accounts

o Budgets and forecasts

· Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place

· Liaise with external accountants or independent examiners

Additional responsibilities for Trustee Treasurer:

· Attend Trustee meetings and contribute to governance

· Help ensure compliance with Charity Commission requirements

· Support strategic planning and decision-making

Our ideal candidate

The Trustee Treasurer is a full member of the Board of Trustees, Sharing collective responsibility for the governance, strategic direction and long term sustainability of the charity.

In addition to the responsibilities of all trustees, the Treasurer takes the lead in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity. The Treasurer will help other trustees to perform their financial duties, by interpreting and explaining accounting requirements. Ensuring that the board receives reports having the information trustees need in an ‘easy to understand’ format and helping trustees guide any other professional advisers they have appointed. The Treasurer provides added support and oversight in relation to the organisation’s financial position, helping the board understand financial performance, sustainability, risk and future planning.

Glaven Caring employs experienced staff and external specialists to manage day-to-day financial operations. The Treasurer role is therefore focused on strategic oversight rather than operational bookkeeping.

We are seeking an individual who is confident interpreting management accounts, budgets and financial information, and who can support constructive discussion and decision making at board level. They advise and inform the trustees with regard to their responsibilities for the finances of the charity. They collaborate with the employed team to provide the most efficient and effective management of the charity's financial resources.
