About the organisation
Glad is a mission-locked UK non-profit focused on cleaning up legacy greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
We exist for one simple reason - to help fix climate change in a practical, measurable way.
We do this through the national Climate Draw. People enter, and their entry fees are pooled into a Climate Pot. That pot funds independently verified, durable carbon removal projects.
Each season we set a clear, public impact target. In Season 4, our community is working towards removing 250,000kg of legacy emissions. When that milestone is reached, a £10,000 cash prize is unlocked.
From our pilot phase, we have already funded the clean-up of 59,000kg of greenhouse gases. This is early stage, but real.
Our model is transparent and disciplined:
- 60% of entry fees go directly to climate clean-up
- 20% funds the prize pot
- 20% covers operating costs and growth
Prizes help draw people in. Alongside the main cash prize, values-aligned brands contribute additional rewards, unlocked at impact milestones. Partners so far include Suri, Naked Paper and smol.
We are building a self-reinforcing cycle of impact that scales globally:
- The more people that join, the more climate clean-up we can fund.
- That clean-up proves the model works and builds confidence with members and with brand partners.
- As partners come on board, the prizes get stronger - increasing the incentive for people to take part.
Over time, what starts small becomes something powerful and global.
Our long-term ambition is bold. We have defined “Goal 1” as the removal of 1 billion tonnes of legacy emissions. Today, we are building the foundations carefully and properly.
Good governance and financial rigour are central to that.
About the role
We are seeking a qualified accountant to support Glad with the preparation of our annual accounts, with an immediate start.
This is initially a defined, one-off project to ensure our accounts are prepared accurately, clearly and in line with all relevant UK requirements for a mission-locked non-profit.
We are at an early stage. Our structure is simple, but our model includes the management of ring-fenced “client funds” – the Climate Pot – which requires careful and transparent treatment.
We are looking for someone who can:
Prepare and finalise annual statutory accounts
Advise on the correct treatment of Climate Pot funds
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards
Provide clear guidance on best practice for financial controls
Sense-check our current bookkeeping and reporting structure
Recommend improvements where appropriate
The initial engagement would focus on preparing the next set of annual accounts. We anticipate this to be a contained project over a defined period, agreed together.
There is potential for ongoing support beyond this. As we grow, we expect to need part-time remote support in the form of light-touch financial controller or oversight input – reviewing management accounts, ensuring the correct treatment of ring-fenced funds and helping us maintain strong financial discipline.
This is not a trustee role. It is an operational, hands-on accounting project with potential to evolve.
Meetings would be remote and flexible. Initially, this would likely involve:
An onboarding call with the founders
A review session of current financial records
Check-ins as required during preparation
A final review and sign-off discussion
We operate leanly and pragmatically. You would work directly with the founders and have clear visibility of the full model.
Above all, we want to ensure that our financial foundations are strong, transparent and built to last.
Our ideal candidate
Essential:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Experience preparing statutory accounts for UK companies or non-profits
- Strong understanding of UK accounting standards and compliance requirements
- Experience dealing with ring-fenced or restricted funds
- High attention to detail and strong professional judgement
- Comfortable working independently in a lean environment
- Clear communicator able to explain financial matters in plain English
Desirable:
- Experience with charities, CICs or mission-led organisations
- Familiarity with prize draws, member-funded models or pooled funds
- Experience designing or reviewing financial controls in early-stage organisations
- Interest in climate, sustainability or impact-led ventures
We value:
- Integrity
- Calm judgement
- A bias for clarity over complexity
- Pride in doing things properly
We do not need someone corporate or overly formal. We need someone who can look at what we are building, understand it quickly and help us strengthen it.
You should be comfortable working remotely and flexibly. This role would suit someone who wants to use their professional skills to support a mission-led organisation without taking on a full trustee commitment.
If you enjoy bringing order, rigour and transparency to growing ventures, this will be a good fit.
What’s in it for you
You will be helping lay the financial foundations of an organisation designed to fix climate change. That may sound big. It is. But the work is practical.
Glad is building a model that channels everyday contributions into measurable carbon removal. We think of Glad as future public infrastructure - something global, trusted and simple. Like Wikipedia or TED, but focused on cleaning up the atmosphere.
To get there, we need strong foundations. Your contribution would directly strengthen:
- Transparency
- Governance
- Financial credibility
- Trust with members and partners
For a mission-led organisation, those things matter deeply.
You would gain:
- Direct exposure to an innovative climate funding model
- Experience supporting a scaling, mission-locked non-profit
- The opportunity to shape financial systems early, not inherit them late
- A close working relationship with experienced founders
- A clear, measurable link between your skills and climate impact
This is not abstract volunteering. Your work will support real carbon removal projects and real impact targets.
You will also join a growing network of values-aligned partners and supporters. As we expand, there may be opportunities to stay involved in an ongoing advisory capacity, should that be of interest.
Most importantly, you will know that your professional expertise helped turn a promising idea into something durable and trusted.
Fixing climate change requires good ideas.
It also requires good accounting.
This is one of those moments where solid, careful financial work genuinely helps the planet.
