Eden Community Association is unincorporated charity association (unregistered) incorporated in 2020. It exists to tackle social, health and educational inequalities by supporting individuals, families and communities experiencing poverty, exclusion and disadvantage.
We achieve this through the provision of welfare and financial support, food and hardship assistance, health and wellbeing programmes, education and skills development, cultural and sporting activities, community cohesion initiatives, environmental projects and opportunities that empower women, young people and underrepresented communities.
Our aim is to improve quality of life, reduce inequalities, promote inclusion, strengthen community relationships and enable people to reach their full potential through accessible, culturally sensitive and community-led services.
About the role
Volunteer Treasurer Trustee
Eden Community Association is seeking a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and provide financial oversight, governance support and strategic guidance to the organisation.
We are a community-led organisation working across Bradford district to tackle poverty, improve health and wellbeing, advance education and promote community cohesion. Our projects include food support, health improvement programmes, counselling services, ESOL classes, family learning, wellbeing activities and community engagement initiatives.
The Treasurer will play a key role in ensuring the charity's finances are effectively managed and that trustees have the information required to make informed decisions. This is an ongoing volunteer governance role and would suit someone with experience in finance, accountancy, bookkeeping, banking, auditing, business management or charity finance.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the charity's financial position, reviewing management accounts and budgets, monitoring income and expenditure, supporting financial planning and ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place. The Treasurer will also work closely with fellow trustees and the charity's accountant or independent examiner to support the preparation of annual accounts and financial reporting requirements.
The successful candidate will help the Board understand the financial implications of strategic decisions, monitor restricted grant funding, assess financial risks and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organisation. They will also support the development and review of financial policies, procedures and governance arrangements to ensure compliance with Charity Commission requirements and good practice.
The Treasurer will not be expected to undertake day-to-day bookkeeping or administration but will provide oversight and assurance that appropriate systems and controls are operating effectively.
The role requires attendance at approximately 4 Board meetings per year, together with occasional Finance and Governance meetings and support during the annual accounts process. The estimated time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month.
