About the organisation

The Derek Wilton Dogs Trust is a grant-giving trust with the following charitable objects :

  • To relieve persons who are sick, disabled or otherwise infirm by promoting or assisting in the provision of appropriately trained dogs.

  • To promote or support academic or medical research and training projects involving dogs for the public benefit, where that research and training does not bring any harm to the dogs involved and to disseminate the useful results thereof.

  • To relieve the suffering of dogs who are in need of care and attention, and in particular to provide or maintain or assist in the provision of maintenance or support of kennels, rescue homes or other facilities for the reception and care of dogs and the treatment of sick, injured, neglected or ill-treated dogs.

About the role

Due to the recent retirement of two accountant trustees from the Board, we are now looking for a Trustee with Financial management experience and skills. We would be keen to hear from you if you have experience in any aspects of financial management, audit, accountancy, business management, and managing investments.

We meet in person twice a year in London and have roughly 4 shorter Zoom meetings per year. The Trustees all contribute to the running of the Trust and we would envisage you supporting oversight of accounts preparation and submission of Charity Commission returns (accounts are produced by Evelyn Partners), and leading financial due diligence for potential new grantees.

Our ideal candidate

If you are looking for an opportunity to improve dog welfare across the UK and support people through the human-animal bond, are a team player with integrity and good communication skills, we would love to hear from you. We are a small Board of Trustees and are looking for someone that brings energy and financial focus with a hands on approach to our grant giving activities.

What’s in it for you

As a Trustee with the Derek Wilton Dogs Trust you can make a real difference to the lives of dogs and people through our grants to Assistance Dogs, Animal Assisted Interventions, and Dog Welfare. Every year we fund projects relating to some of the following areas - Core Costs, Infrastructure, Innovation, Research and Collaborative projects. We get to see the impact of our funding to individuals and organisations and are constantly striving to ensure our funding has a long term impact through sharing of successes between charities and looking for innovative and sustainable projects and programmes to fund. This is a great opportunity to turn you financial expertise into positive action and change for people and dogs.
