About the organisation

Support a small UK non-profit (CLG) using philosophy and critical thinking to empower young people. We’re seeking a volunteer accountant to help with basic bookkeeping and year-end accounts.

About the role

We are looking for a volunteer accountant to support us on a short-term basis with our first set of year-end accounts and to provide practical bookkeeping advice for the year ahead.

The role will involve:

  • Reviewing our existing financial records

  • Helping prepare or advising on our first year-end accounts

  • Recommending simple, appropriate bookkeeping practices we can follow independently over the next year

  • Answering a small number of practical questions to ensure we start on the right footing

This is a time-limited role, focused on getting things set up properly rather than ongoing involvement. We expect the commitment to be modest and are happy to agree a clear, one-off scope that fits your availability.

You would work directly with the founding team, who manage day-to-day operations.

This role is ideal for an accountant who enjoys helping small organisations get established and wants to offer focused, practical support.

Our ideal candidate

The most important qualities are:

  • Practical experience in accounting or bookkeeping
  • Confidence with year-end accounts
  • An ability to give clear, straightforward advice
  • A supportive and patient approach when working with a small volunteer team

Our finances are simple, with a small number of transactions, and this will be the first time we are completing year-end accounts. Experience with charities or non-profits would be helpful but is not essential.

This role would suit someone who enjoys helping small organisations get established and is happy to agree a clearly defined, short-term scope.

What’s in it for you

Your support will help us complete our year-end accounts properly for the first time and make sure our finances are clear and well organised.

By reviewing our records and giving practical bookkeeping advice, you will help us understand what we need to do going forward and ensure we are working in a transparent and responsible way. This is especially important as we prepare to transition into a registered charity.

Your input will give us confidence that our finances are in good order and help us avoid mistakes, allowing the team to focus on our core work rather than worrying about accounting requirements.

This is a short-term piece of support, but it will make a real difference by helping us start off on the right footing. If the collaboration works well, there may also be scope for ongoing or longer-term involvement, though there is no expectation.
