About the organisation
CodeBrave Foundation is an ambitious UK-registered charity working to bring Computer Science and AI education to children across Lebanon. Since 2019, in close partnership with CodeBrave Lebanon, we have reached 10,000+ students across 80 schools throughout Lebanon. Our ambition is to scale our programmes to reach all 1,200 public schools in Lebanon.
About the role
We are seeking a volunteer Finance Officer to support the financial management of CodeBrave Foundation. This is an ongoing volunteer role rather than a fixed-term project, designed to provide consistent operational financial oversight as the charity continues to grow.
The role is primarily operational, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our financial processes and reporting. The Finance Officer will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Treasurer.
The charity operates at a manageable financial scale, with approximately 20 bank transactions per month (income and expenditure combined). As a grant-giving charity with one employee, outgoing transactions are primarily payroll, grant disbursements, and software subscriptions. Financial systems and core reporting frameworks are already established; the role focuses on maintaining accuracy, strengthening controls, and continuously improving processes rather than building systems from scratch.
Key responsibilities include:
Operational Financial Management
- Processing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and accurate record-keeping.
- Issuing invoices and donation receipts and following up on outstanding payments.
- Conducting monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Supporting preparation and monitoring of cash flow forecasts.
- Posting journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records in compliance with SORP.
Reporting and Governance
- Preparing monthly financial reports (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow forecast) for internal review.
- Preparing quarterly financial reports for Board meetings.
- Supporting the planning and budgeting process.
- Maintaining proper accounting records and robust internal financial controls.
- Supporting regulatory compliance and filing requirements.
- Liaising with the independent examiner during the annual accounts process, in collaboration with the Treasurer and Executive Director.
- Contributing to the charity’s risk register, ensuring financial risks are identified and monitored.
Meetings and Engagement
The Finance Officer will attend four virtual Board meetings per year (typically Monday evenings, 5:00–6:30pm) and occasional ad hoc meetings if required. Informal monthly check-ins with the Executive Director take place as needed. There are no Chair or Sub-Committee leadership responsibilities attached to this role.
The estimated time commitment is approximately 18 days per year (around 1.5 days per month on average), including monthly financial oversight, quarterly Board preparation and attendance, and annual accounts preparation and liaison with the independent examiner.
Our ideal candidate
We’re looking for skills/experience in the following:
- Qualified chartered accountant/financial qualifications with 2-3 years experience.
- Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or bookkeeping.
- Awareness of charity finance regulations, including SORP, VAT requirements, and reserves policies.
- Experience working with restricted funds or grant reporting.
- Familiarity with charity governance and trustee responsibilities.
- Ability to analyse and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- Commitment to the charity’s mission and willingness to contribute time and expertise.
What’s in it for you
- Be part of a high-impact, innovative organisation tackling the root causes of educational inequality in a rapidly changing, technology-driven world.
- Play a direct role in enabling real change — helping thousands of children in Lebanon access the Computer Science and AI education that will shape their futures.
- Gain insight into how a fast-growing international charity operates financially and strategically as it scales towards national impact.
- Work closely with a committed and values-driven Board, Treasurer, and Executive Director, contributing to meaningful strategic decisions.
- Expand your professional network across the nonprofit, education, and international development sectors while applying your expertise to a mission that truly matters.
