About the organisation
CMV Action was registered as a charity in 2012. It is the only UK charity offering advice and support to families affected by congenital CMV (cCMV). It us currently run by its trustees, a part-time consultant project manager, a part-time consultant fundraiser, a volunteer bookkeeper, a volunteer IT consultant, and experienced volunteers. It is a small charity with assets of c£140k.
About the role
A key role in the effective governance of CMV Action is that of the Honorary Treasurer (treasurer) as the other trustees look to for advice, guidance, and reassurance on all aspects of the charity’s financial management.
The Overall Role
The role of the CMV Action treasurer can be summarised as follows:
· to monitor the financial administration of CMV Action.
·overseeing the trustees bank account and internal monthly cash-based transaction reports and annual financial statements to the board of trustees.
·ensure that proper accounting records are kept using Xero.
· supporting the bookkeeper responsible for recording the financial transactions.
·advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan.
·acting as a counter signatory on online payments; and
·liaison with the external examiners on the conduct of their examination of the annual financial statements.
Time commitment
The Trustees meet every six weeks or so for 90 mins via Zoom/Teams and try and meet twice a year in person.
There are few transactions in any month and the time commitment evens out at an hour a week to support the bookkeeper and trustees.
