Citizens Advice provides free, confidential and impartial advice, and campaigns on big issues affecting people’s lives.
People come to us with all sorts of issues. You may have money, benefits, housing, employment or immigration problems. You may be facing a crisis, or just considering your options.
Our goal is to help everyone find a way forward, whatever they face. Citizens Advice Southampton is an independent local charity that works for Southampton residents. But we are also part of the Citizens Advice network across England and Wales. Many people think we are a part of government, but we are not. We are an independent charity working for the residents of Southampton.
In 2024/25 we supported 8,316 clients, with 32,736 different problems, and helped them gain an additional £6,324,175.
About the role
We’re seeking a finance professional or someone with prior relevant experience to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. You’ll guide our charity’s financial strategy, oversee budgets and reports, and ensure good governance to support our mission of providing free, confidential advice to local people.
Key responsibilities include:
- Help set appropriate budgets and ensure our financial strategy is fit for purpose.
- Review management reports.
- Present financial updates at our AGM.
- Help ensuring financial policies and controls meet best practice standards.
- Understand financial risks and opportunities to support confident decision-making.
Our ideal candidate
You’ll have a recognised finance qualification, senior finance management experience or demonstrable experience of volunteering as a Treasurer for a large charity.
You ideally live in or near Southampton, and share our commitment to helping the community.
