About the organisation

The Children’s Respite Trust truly believes that no family should have to care for a disabled child alone and so they provide respite at their Centre in Uckfield and through their Community Support-Workers across Sussex and Kent.

For some, the care they provide means that parents get to spend time with siblings of the disabled children. For others it is simply an opportunity for some sleep, but for all families, it is a chance to do something that the rest of us take for granted, while the children themselves have the best time possible.

As the Trust has grown we have expanded the services providing support for children as young as 2 up to 19 with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities. Our current services include a SEN nursery called Little Stars, respite sessions in the school holidays, community care, siblings club and full family care events. This combination ensures the whole family is supported to succeed.

About the role

The Trust is looking for a volunteer who can support us with advice as we update our systems and move towards more of a best practice model of financial governance.

There is a degree of duplication in the Charity's current processes, which we wish to eradicate by introducing new software. Together with this, we wish to streamline the current processes and ensure sufficient accountability.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will have worked in finance either as an accountant or as someone who has worked in the finance department of an orginsation. They will likely have some experience of finance software such as Sage and Xero.

The main thing that we are looking for is someone with a supportive attitude. We have an incredibly positive team, who are all striving to see the Charity grow to be the best it can be for the children and families who we support.

What’s in it for you

You will be part of a team that is achieving great things for children with disabilities in Sussex and Kent. We currently have 67 families on our books and we are making a big difference to their lives by giving them some much-needed respite while making sure that the children themselves have the best time.
