About the organisation

Cheshire Residential Homes Trust has been dedicated to providing high quality residential care for elderly people in Cheshire and Wirral since 1947 in our three Homes in Macclesfield, Sandiway and Heswall. All residents have their own rooms, excellent food and care and a wide variety of activities and outings are offered - they move into ourHomes to actually enjoy life.

Our Homes are managed by the CEO and his senior management team alongside the wonderful care, catering and domestic staff. Happily we are now in a position to extend our provision and are looking to invigorate our Board by bringing in fresh knowledge and experience in order to strengthen our governance and ensure we continue to offer the best experience and value to our Residents.

About the role

The Trust currently has six Trustees with a range of experience and professional expertise but our skills audit shows we need to recruit a Trustee with a background in finance.

As one of our Trustees you will

  • bring your financial knowledge and skills to the Board as we enter a period of growth
  • develop a sound understanding of the Charity's finances and be prepared to assist the Board in understanding financial matters
  • lead and chair the Audit and Risk Management committee ( meeting twice a year) which is vital to ensuring good governance
  • Become aware of the challenges faced by the sector and thereby assist the Board to work towards long term sustainability
  • Board meetings are held quarterly, either in one of the Homes or online
  • Trustees are appointed for an initial period of three years and thereafter may be re elected for a further 3 year term.
  • the post is unpaid, but travel expenses may be claimed

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for a candidate who understands the duties of Trusteeship as set out by the Charity Commission and who also

  • has strong financial literacy
  • has some experience or understanding of Charity sector finance
  • is a strategic thinker with the ability to think clearly and critically about the Charity's future direction
  • has a collaborative approach - a team player with willingness to work with colleagues from different disciplines and the ability to advise them on their financial responsibilities

Previous Board experience would be useful but not essential.

What’s in it for you

Why join us?

  • To make a difference! - this is a key rôle in shaping the future of the Charity

  • help make a difference to the lives of the people who live in our Homes

  • Acquire valuable experience of governance within a different sector

If you are ready to help reinvigorate the Board by contributing your expertise we would love to hear from you!
