About the organisation
The British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) has supported people with sight loss for nearly 100 years. We unlock a world of audio content for people living with sight loss. We do this by giving people free audio devices, apps and support. We help people directly and via referrals. We also work in partnership with other charities and organisations to ensure our help reaches those who need us.
As we enter a significant period of transformation, we are seeking a trustee with strong financial expertise to join our Board. We are evolving from a traditional audio device provider into a charity focused on technology empowerment and digital inclusion. In 2026, we will launch a major rebrand and implement a new, research-led strategy. This role offers the opportunity to support that transition by strengthening financial oversight at Board level.
About the role
BWBF already has a Treasurer on the Board, as well as a Financial Controller from within the staff team (who manages day-to-day finance and reports to the CEO). We are therefore seeking a trustee who can provide additional independent scrutiny, challenge, and strategic financial insight to support robust governance and long-term sustainability.
As Trustee (Finance), you will:
Provide informed financial challenge and assurance at Board level
Contribute to oversight of budgeting, reserves, risk and financial planning
Support sound governance and strategic decision-making
Attend quarterly Board meetings (online and in person), with potential committee involvement
Our ideal candidate
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in finance, accountancy, audit, charity finance or senior roles with significant financial responsibility. Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.
This is an unremunerated voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. BWBF is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcomes applications from all backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from people living with sight loss.
