About the organisation

We work with farms in the Avon region to harvest or collect surplus fruit and veg that would otherwise go to waste. This is then redistributed to charitable food projects who are supporting people experiencing food insecurity. We’ll find a home for any amount of produce from farms, growers, allotments, orchards, gardens or other organisations!

About the role

As we have recently become a CIC we would like to create a streamlined and well-organised accounting process.

We would welcome advice from an experienced accountant about annual accounts, book-keeping, PAYE and payroll.

We would also appreciate for someone to come on board on a more long-term basis to prepare our annual accounts and potentially to do our payroll as well if we decide this is required.

We are a small organisation with 4 paid staff members and we are entirely grant-funded.

Although not essential for this role we would also welcome support with fundraising and identifying funding bids we could apply to.

Our ideal candidate

We would like to find an accountant who is friendly and approachable and who has experience working with small organisations. A micro-organisation like ours has different needs to a large charity and we are looking for someone who is understanding of our lack of finance knowledge (!) and is happy to explain things to us in a jargon-free way.

We also would like to find someone who is motivated to contribute to a project which supports social justice and the environment, so if you have a passion for these causes then we would love to hear from you.

If you also have experience with fundraising then this would be beneficial, but is not essential for the role.

What’s in it for you

This voluntary role will make a huge difference in allowing our organisation to continue to focus on gleaning, building and maintaining relationships with farms/food projects/volunteers and fundraising.

Our small team does not have experience in accounting or finance and it is an essential part of being a CIC and running an organisation. Having someone to support and advise us will ensure that we are compliant and solvent, and can continue to support families experiencing food insecurity with fresh healthy produce.
