About the organisation
Alara Community Arts CIC is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with an asset lock, incorporated on 30 January 2026 (Companies House 17001682). We are developing accessible theatre, music, dance, visual arts and creative learning opportunities for Kirkby and wider Knowsley residents. Our aim is to help people learn, create and connect regardless of income or previous experience.
We are preparing our first programmes. Our proposed hub at 9 Market Square, Kirkby is still subject to lease and permission for public activity, so we distinguish confirmed arrangements from plans. The directors are Anthony Canavan, Danielle Canavan, Aaron Pearce and Katie Buckingham. Anthony will supervise this short finance project and maintain the resulting templates, with director oversight.
About the role
We seek a volunteer finance planning and grant cost-allocation adviser for an initial six-week project, around two hours a week, including a short weekly review with Anthony Canavan. Start dates will be agreed after a suitable match. The role can be delivered remotely.
The volunteer will help us simplify our funding tracker, distinguish restricted awards from pending applications and forecasts, allocate shared project costs consistently, and build a maintainable monthly cash-flow template and concise directors’ summary. The final week will include a practical handover so Anthony and the directors can update the templates themselves. Success will mean that a small set of sample costs can be traced to the right project, duplicate funding can be identified and the team understands the assumptions.
This is an unpaid advisory project, not a trustee, director or statutory accountant appointment. Directors retain spending decisions and approval. No banking access is included. Scope, confidentiality, references and any expenses will be agreed before appointment; no expenditure is authorised by this advert.
Our ideal candidate
Essential: accounting or finance experience; confidence with spreadsheets and cash-flow planning; clear communication with non-specialists; and the ability to explain a proportionate, maintainable approach for a new CIC.
Desirable: experience of restricted grants, charitable or social-enterprise reporting, and allocating costs across several projects. We value practical advice, patient handover and an understanding that unconfirmed funding and venue plans must remain provisional. Relevant experience and references will be discussed during selection.
What’s in it for you
Help a new community arts CIC establish sound financial planning as it prepares accessible activities for Kirkby residents. Your skills could leave a lasting, practical benefit: directors who can maintain clear reports, understand funding dependencies and avoid charging the same cost twice.
The project has a defined six-week scope and handover, with direct access to Anthony for weekly review. It offers a chance to apply finance expertise to community arts and share skills with a small team.
