ACISS is dedicated to educating, informing, connecting, and equipping African immigrants and people of African descent in Surrey and Sussex with the people and resources they need to foster a thriving community.

About the role
To oversee the financial affairs of Africa Community in Surrey & Sussex, ensuring that the organisation remains financially healthy, compliant, and able to deliver services that benefit African communities across the region. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain an overview of the charity’s financial affairs to ensure its viability and compliance with relevant laws and good practice.
- Monitor and report on the organisation’s financial position to the Board of Trustees.
- Advise the Board on financial implications of strategic and operational plans.
- Ensure the organisation complies with Companies House financial requirements.
- Work with team members and volunteers to develop funding proposals and ensure grant conditions are met.
Flexible role – approximately 4–6 hours per month either face to face or remotely. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and communities.
Our ideal candidate
- Proven financial management experience (e.g. as a treasurer, accountant, finance officer, or similar)
- Proficient in using Excel
- Proficient in using Xero software or similar
- Good understanding of charity finance principles and reporting requirements
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
- High level of integrity, honesty, and commitment to confidentiality
- Recognised accountancy qualification or equivalent experience
- Ideally have experience working with small charities or community groups
- Ideally have an understanding of African communities and relevant cultural contexts.
