About the organisation
Active Luton is a Community Wellbeing Trust. Its mission is to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Luton's community, inspiring, motivating and offering opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to learn and take action to improve their life chances.
Active Luton runs leisure and community facilities, including libraries, and provides a wide range of high-quality programmes and activities, all of which enable local people to:
• participate in physical activity
• improve their health and wellbeing
• enhance their education and skills
• create career opportunities
It is committed to its principles of inclusivity, accessibility and affordability, working closely with partners locally, regionally and nationally and continuously looking to bring the best to its diverse and vibrant community.
Its values of teamwork, innovation, inclusivity and excellence underpin everything it does and how it works as
an organisation.
About the role
Active Luton is looking for new trustees with finance knowledge to join its Board.
The commitment would be to attend four board meetings a year, with additional attendance encouraged at a sub-committee of the individual's choice. Trustees would also be invited to represent the Trust at community events as they arise. Trustees and the Chair would be expected to observe and comply with the Nolan Principles and to serve at least one three-year term. Our board needs to be reflective of the local community, ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion run through everything we does. We are particularly looking for knowledge and experience of the financial sector to support and challenge our processes and thinking. It is important for prospective candidates to know that we are financially sound. It would also be useful to find trustees with experience in public health or primary care given the nature of our diverse work in health improvement programmes.
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for candidates who want to use their professional skills to support community wellbeing and give back to a charitable cause. Active Luton prides itself on the impact it makes on improving lives and we're looking for people with a passion to support us in our work to achieve this.
Essential skills/qualities - knowledg of Luton; good interpersonal skills; interest in community wellbeing and health improvement
Desirable skills - knowledge of financial management, knowledge of primary care and/or public health
What’s in it for you
We find our work hugely rewarding and we are confident that trustees will too. We place a strong emphasis on evidencing the impact we make and can take people on this rewarding journey with us.
We are a highly respected Trust at a national level, working with high profile organisations and governing bodies including Sport England and Swim England.
We are a different kind of leisure trust - not purely focussing on running leisure sites - and we believe that this opportunity provides a unique chance to join an impactful and forward-thinking charity that will be of benefit to the career of anyone working with us.
