About the organisation

Founded in 1986, The Friends of Finsbury Park exists to preserve, improve and protect historic Grade II listed Finsbury Park and its wildlife for the benefit of its diverse surrounding communities. The main objectives include enabling all park users to benefit from outdoor exercise/recreation, and have a chance for peaceful contemplation and meditation in Nature. The Friends' aim is to promote safety and accessibility so that the Park remains open to all users to enjoy their urban green space in peace. Our mission is to offer a voice to the community in matters such as safeguarding, ensuring accessibility, and improving the park and its wildlife now and for generations to come.

The Friends of Finsbury Park are committed to improving the diversity of the trustee board and believe that representation is important to reflect the communities that we serve. We encourage applications from individuals with a disability, those from the LGBTQ community and/or individuals from an ethnic minority background. Applications are open to anyone above the age of 18.

About the role

We are currently looking for a Vounteeer Treasurer with experience in finance, accounting, or financial management to join our Board of Trustees; the Treasurer's role includes financial controls, clear reporting, and effective budgeting. The role involves providing advice on financial matters to the Board and ensuring the charity adheres to its statutory financial reporting obligations. The Treasurer’s role includes oversight of the financial management of the charity, ensuring that the charity operates in a financially sustainable and transparent manner in line with its mission, legal responsibilities, and good governance practices. The role involves providing advice on financial matters to the Board and ensuring the charity adheres to its statutory financial reporting obligations.

The Treasurer handles financial controls, clear reporting, and effective budgeting. The Treasurer works closely with the Board and the Chair to safeguard the charity’s finances and financial stability. Guidance on the role is available from an Independant Adviser and support will be provided by the Chair and Board of Trustees

Our ideal candidate

Essential:

  • experience in finance, accounting, or financial management
  • understanding of governance and trustee responsibilities, including legal and regulatory requirements.
  • strategic thinker with the ability to assess financial risks and opportunities effectively.
  • ability to analyse financial data and present clear insights to non-financial stakeholders including at community meetings (4-5 per year and at the AGM which may be attended in person or remotely.
  • Commitment to the charity’s mission and ability to act in its best interests.

Desirable:

  • Professional finance or accounting qualifications (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA).
  • Previous experience as a trustee or board member.
  • Familiarity with charity finance regulations and reporting standards (e.g., SORP).
  • Experience with investment strategies, reserves management, or financial risk assessment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor or guide others effectively.The Treasurer works closely with the Board and the Chair to safeguard the charity’s finances and financial stability.
