About the organisation

Our organisation is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can improve their physical health, mental wellbeing, and confidence through boxing and fitness. Our vision is to build a world-class boxing gym that not only develops sporting ability but also strengthens communities and encourages healthier, more active lifestyles across the U.K.

Our mission is to provide high-quality boxing and fitness coaching delivered by experienced trainers who are passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals. We aim to create a welcoming space where everyone feels respected and valued, regardless of age, gender, experience, or ability. We believe boxing is more than just a sport it teaches discipline, resilience, self-belief, respect, and determination, all of which are valuable life skills that extend far beyond the gym.

Our objectives are to increase participation in boxing and physical activity, improve both physical and mental wellbeing, and provide opportunities for personal growth and positive community engagement. We want to encourage healthier lifestyles while creating pathways for people to build confidence, improve fitness, develop skills, and become part of a positive and supportive environment. We are also committed to engaging with the wider community, particularly young people, by offering activities that promote inclusion, wellbeing, and positive choices.

We do what we do because we care deeply about our community and recognise the real need for positive spaces, particularly in areas experiencing high levels of deprivation. Many young people in our local area face social and economic challenges that can affect their mental health, confidence, and future opportunities. We have seen first-hand how boxing and fitness can positively impact lives. Young people regularly tell us how training helps them manage stress, improve focus, feel happier, and build confidence.

For many, the gym becomes more than just somewhere to exercise it becomes a safe space where they feel supported, motivated, and part of something positive. We believe physical activity can play a powerful role in supporting mental wellbeing, reducing anxiety, and helping people develop structure, resilience, and self-confidence.

Ultimately, we exist to create opportunities, inspire positive change, and help people become healthier, happier, and more confident in themselves. Through boxing, fitness, and strong community support, we want to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.

About the role

Volunteer Finance Officer:

Reporting to the Secrtary / Director - paper work person

We are currently looking for a Volunteer Finance Officer who can support our organisation with an important financial matter, particularly around filing our outstanding Corporation Tax returns and helping us better understand the process moving forward.

As a growing community organisation, we recognise that we have fallen behind with our Corporation Tax responsibilities. We have already spoken with HMRC, who have kindly provided us with additional time and advised us to submit the outstanding filings as soon as possible and then appeal any penalties. We are committed to putting things right, but we need support from someone with financial knowledge who can help guide us through the process properly.

We are looking for someone with experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or tax who would be willing to help us understand what needs to be done, support us in preparing or filing the required information, and guide us on best practice moving forward. Even if you are only able to offer advice or a small amount of time, your support could make a significant difference to us.

This role may involve reviewing financial records, helping organise financial information, supporting compliance tasks, and most importantly, helping us navigate Corporation Tax filings and any associated appeals process. We are keen to learn, improve, and ensure everything is handled correctly going forward.

We are looking for someone who is approachable, organised, and willing to support a community-focused organisation in a practical and meaningful way. Your knowledge and expertise would help us become more sustainable, compliant, and better prepared for the future.

If you are able to help, even in a small way, we would genuinely appreciate your support. Your time and guidance could make a real difference to our organisation and the work we do in the community.

Our ideal candidate

Essential skills and qualities

We are looking for a volunteer Finance Officer who is approachable, supportive, and willing to help guide our organisation through an important stage in strengthening our financial processes. As a growing community organisation, we understand that we may not have everything in place yet, so we are looking for someone who is patient, understanding, and able to offer practical support in a positive and constructive way.

The ideal candidate will have experience or knowledge in finance, bookkeeping, accounting, tax, or financial administration. A good understanding of Corporation Tax responsibilities, financial compliance, and financial reporting would be particularly valuable, especially as we are currently working to address outstanding filings and improve our systems moving forward.

We are looking for someone who has strong organisational skills and good attention to detail, as accuracy is important when dealing with financial information and reporting requirements. The ability to review records carefully, identify what may be missing, and help us organise information clearly would be extremely beneficial.

Good communication skills are also essential. We are seeking someone who can explain financial matters in a simple and supportive way, helping us better understand processes, responsibilities, and next steps without using overly technical language. We value someone who is approachable and willing to work collaboratively with our team.

Reliability and integrity are particularly important in this role. The successful volunteer would be handling sensitive financial information and helping us build stronger systems, so we are looking for someone who is trustworthy, professional, and committed to supporting the organisation in a meaningful way.

We would also value someone who is solution-focused and willing to help us move forward positively. Rather than simply identifying problems, we are looking for someone who can guide us through practical solutions and help us improve our financial confidence and compliance for the future.

Desirable skills and qualities

While not essential, experience supporting charities, community organisations, small businesses, or voluntary organisations would be highly beneficial. We would particularly welcome someone who understands the challenges smaller organisations face and can provide realistic, practical guidance.

Experience with Corporation Tax filing, financial compliance, or supporting organisations through late submissions or appeals processes would also be extremely valuable. As we have been advised by HMRC to file outstanding returns and appeal penalties afterwards, someone with knowledge or experience in this area could make a real difference.

An understanding of financial systems, record keeping, budgeting, or financial planning would also be helpful as we continue to strengthen our organisation and improve our internal processes.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely wants to help and make a positive contribution. We value kindness, patience, and a willingness to share knowledge. Even a small amount of support from the right person could have a lasting impact and help us become a stronger, more sustainable organisation for the future.

What’s in it for you

Volunteering with our organisation is an opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference, not only to the organisation itself but also to the wider community we support. By offering your time, knowledge, and experience as a volunteer Finance Officer, you will play an important role in helping us build stronger foundations, improve our financial systems, and ensure we are able to continue delivering meaningful support to local people.

Your contribution will have a direct impact on helping us become more financially organised, compliant, and sustainable for the future. Support with areas such as Corporation Tax filings, financial guidance, and improving our financial understanding will allow us to focus more time and energy on delivering positive activities and opportunities within the community. Put simply, your support behind the scenes helps strengthen the work happening on the ground.

We work with a diverse range of people in our local area, including many young people who benefit greatly from having access to positive spaces, support networks, and structured activities. As an organisation based in an area experiencing high levels of deprivation, we recognise the importance of creating opportunities that encourage confidence, wellbeing, inclusion, and positive personal development. Many of the people we support tell us about the positive impact participating in activities has had on their mental wellbeing, confidence, motivation, and sense of belonging.

As a volunteer, you would become part of something meaningful and community focused more than that, you would become part of a family community that genuinely values and supports one another. We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment where people feel included, appreciated, and connected. We want our volunteers to feel like they belong and know that their time, ideas, and contributions are truly valued.

You would have the opportunity to use your professional skills in a way that creates real impact while also helping shape the future direction of a growing organisation. Your expertise could directly contribute to helping us become stronger, more sustainable, and better equipped to support the people who rely on our services.

There are also personal benefits to volunteering with us. Depending on your interests and experience, this role may offer opportunities to strengthen existing financial skills, gain experience supporting a community organisation, broaden your understanding of the voluntary sector, and develop relationships with others involved in community work and local initiatives. It can also be a valuable networking opportunity, connecting with trustees, volunteers, and local partners who are passionate about making a difference.

Volunteers may also have opportunities to be involved in community events, projects, and initiatives delivered by the organisation, helping shape activities and contribute ideas that positively benefit local people.

As a thank you for your support, volunteers will also be able to make use of our facilities and enjoy being part of a positive, supportive environment. Most importantly, you will know that your time and expertise are helping create stronger opportunities, healthier communities, and a brighter future for the people we serve.
