About the organisation
The Old Market has a passion for seeing things in new ways and creating fresh, relevant experiences to engage, excite and inspire a diverse audience. We encourage risk taking; present new voices and produce innovative concepts. Our business is to create, programme and host memorable events that completely immerse our audiences and make the shared live experience pertinent to a new generation of cultural consumers. We provide an exciting hub for creative learning and skills development in the arts that transcends theatre as an institution and encourages innovation and experimentation.
The Old Market (or TOM, as we like to call it) is a thriving arts venue based in Hove. Every year we host over 200 events and welcome 55,000 people through our doors to experience live music, film, boundary breaking theatre, dance, cabaret, comedy, literature, workshops and performances using new technologies, such as TOMTech. We work with local artists, major cultural festivals, independent promoters as well as national arts organisations, bringing even greater variety to our programme. In particular, we’re proud to support the best emerging talent and nurture their growth so that the arts scene in Brighton and beyond can thrive for years to come.
"The indie sector has few champions like TOM - hugely supportive, never afraid to take a risk, always leading the way. These venues are rare gems. If the ecology of theatre is to have a future we must find ways to support the grassroots to survive" - Jo Crowley, Producer, 1927 Productions.

Our Treasurer will join a group of motivated team of Trustees with a diverse set of skills who are committed to the future of this fantastic independent venue. There are opportunities to learn about running a middle scale venue, fundraising from philanthropic, trust and public sources as well as using your financial management and accountancy skills to support the Executive Director and Finance Manager to continue improving policy, procedures and good practice.
