About the organisation

The Community Lab Initiative CIC is a small not-for-profit organisation that nurtures and showcases Ukrainian talent across Lincolnshire. Based in Sleaford, we run a Ukrainian community support group and develop projects that strengthen financial wellbeing. Our goal is two-fold: to help Ukrainians contribute their skills and talents to the local economy and to support Ukraine directly through donations and business links.

About the role

Location: Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.
Commitment: Able to give c. 8-10 hrs per month for at least 12 months. You will be supported by a Finance Assistant (to be recruited), our Founder Director and our external accountants.
Remuneration: Volunteer role (with unlimited appreciation and delicious Ukrainian Honeycake)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the search, onboarding and ongoing development of a Finance Assistant to strengthen our internal capacity.
  • Work in Xero to reconcile bank statements and monitor budgets, cashflow, fundraising and grant-related finance tasks
  • Prepare financial records and reports to support our team, liaising with our external accountants when required.
  • Advise and support the Directors to keep finances running smoothly, reviewing risks and helping us improve processes, policies and procedures
  • Be our trusted go-to for finance and compliance queries

Our ideal candidate

Essential

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent.
  • Proven track record running small-organisation finances: Xero, payroll, HMRC compliance, cash-flow and routine reporting.
  • Confidence managing restricted funds and producing grant reports.
  • Ability to analyse and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly and effectively.
  • Commitment to our charitable mission, with the time and expertise to match.

Desirable

  • Experience in community-interest companies, charities or other social enterprises.
  • Prior experience mentoring or supervising junior staff or volunteers, and coaching on finance-related tasks (funding applications, online fundraising, event budgets, cost monitoring).
  • Experience with Salesforce.

What You’ll Get From Us

  • A place to shape the future of a growing social enterprise
  • Invitations to events, community days… and a serious risk of becoming addicted to Ukrainian Honeycake (don’t say we didn’t warn you)
